Ran over a dog at 80 mph - question

So hit a huge dog on the freeway doing about 80mph.
Blood everywhere
The smell!!!!! YUCK!!!!!
O2 sensor . . . . . . gone
Cat converter . . . . .toast

MY REAL QUESTION ;
Those 2 support brackets that are below( just behind ) the Cat and resonator . . are they important? Are they just there to protect the exhaust system? cuz they're gone. ripped right out of the frame(underbody metal)

I will try to get pics tomorrow

I don't think the two braces under the exhaust are all that essential, I would still try and obtain two more but when I removed my stock midpipe they didn't even touch the braces. I think they are there to prevent the midpipe from "falling" out. I'm really not completely sure on this issue so if someone has better insight, please post away!

poor dog.............

I'd worry more about your 02 sensor being gone than the brackets.

Those braces are for structural integrity...you need them to prevent chassis flex...you should scour the junk yards for replacements or pull the ones you had out of the organic frizzbee you smeared on the highway...sorry to hear about what happened...thats a dog-gone shame...heh

They are extremely critical and you should not drive the car without them there at the exact alignment specs set by the factory.

please dont' post pics unless you've cleaned the under carriage of your car. I'm pretty sure those parts are important.

Did you call your insurance company because you hit a car at 60 mph.

The speed limit on the 15 freeway is 70. So according to my insurance , I was hit by flying debris (comp) that I could not avoid while traveling at 70mph. As opposed to hitting (collision) something on the freeway.
Here is the wierd part . . ; the animal control van pulled off the road right in front of me, so I could not get his truck number. But the dog jumped out of the kennel truck, and was on his side by the time I hit it.

I have already cleaned the undercarriage. But it bent the heck out of one support and tore the other one out on one side. How important are those braces? one is right behind the catalytic converter, the other is farther back by the resonator. Am I dealing with a frame issue, or are they there just to keep the exhaust system from falling out?

should have stopped and got the truck number. it would have been up to them to take care of your car.
