As long as it's the correct voltage and amperage... Choose the wrong one, and you could damage the radar detector.

The poor grammar throughout this thread (excluding Wingznut) makes me wonder what everyone is talking about.

I have an older one, it uses a phone jack. I just use a phone cord with the wires split out. Only problem is working with those really fine wires. UTP, like for network drops will work as well if you have a connector tool, or know someone who does. I did not write down the pin outs, sorry. And the meter I had with little tips that would reach in got vaporized.

Godssoldier220, sorry for Cryptic reply.

A universal power cord will suffice, however, as Wingznut so clearly pointed out, verify that the cord is compatible with the detector. Or you will let the smoke out.

The smartcord blue offers a feature the universal power supplydoes not offer, So if it were I, I would get, buy, acquire, or purchase the cord made by the manufacture, be that from amazon, ebay, or a friend.

Escort 79-000041-02 Direct Wire SmartCord - Blue is designed for those who don’t like occupying their cigarette lighter with their radar detector cord. Escort offers a solution! Simply use the Direct Wire SmartPlug to connect your radar detector straight to the fuse box in the dash of your car. The Direct Wire plug also features the popular mute button functionality that can be mounted in close range for easy accessibility. The direct wire SmartCord is compatible with the following models: 9500ix, 9500i, 8500 X50, 8500, 7500S, 7500, 6800, C65, RedLine, Solo S2, and SC55.

@ sjschutz, Google is my friend.

If i were you, i will just bring the item or ask any electronic store like the Radio Shack, Best Buy, and any other stores who specialized with those things, and they should tell you exactly what cords are compatible with your radar system.
