Radar Detector +1 cop-1
Ok so today I was coming back home from my physical theropy appointment for my shoulder. The theropy clinic is about 30 min from my house and home town all on country back roads and highway w/ a speed limit of 55. While on my way home I approach a van going about 55 exactly, I like to drive about 60 on this highway. Anyways as i get behind him he speeds up to about 63 and then would decel to 55 back and forth so I get tired of slow and speeding up and look see no cars coming my way in the other lane wait for the dotted lines and drop it into 3rd and pass him pretty hard hit about 80 ish by the time i get passed him. On the road up ahead as soon as i get back in my lane there is a hill and a good curve, right before the curve my radar detector starts going crazy so i get slowed back down to 60 right when a cop comes around the corner. Now i know i shouldnt be driving that fast but it was highway road and i did not stay at that speed for long exspecially after the detector started screaming! None the less once again my radar detector has saved my @ss again. Man I love those things! * Cant depend on just them alone but sure helps w/ an extra eye looking out for you!*
well just figure ide share that info, i was very relieved after he drove by knowing he didnt catch me for my ticket wouldnt have been very nice!

Close one but you sounds like you weren't doing anything out of the ordinary. If I go to pass someone then I usually accelerate as hard as possible no matter how fast I get to make sure I safely get around the vehicle as fast as possible even though I'm usually always exceeding the speed limit to achieve this. I know the law usually states that you can't exceed the speed limit even while passing but I feel its safer in that situation to do so.
The price of a decent radar detector is usually about the price of a ticket so I think they are completely justified if it saves you just once. My cheapo detector finally bit the dust so I'm thinking of getting the Escort 8500 X50 in red to match my red dash lighting.

Yeah, Ive had a $80 Cobra one for years that has saved me countless times and would never die until recently so I'm finally looking for a replacement. I pretty much got my money's worth out of that one.

Valentine 1 for the win.
I have had one in each vehicle for 9 years. I have the older thicker one and two of the skinner ones. I drove my brother-in-laws car with the passport, and felt NAKED without the directional arrows.
They are expensive, but well worth it.
In Houston, they are using a bunch more laser, so I am thinking about adding a laser jammer, but V1's $400 dollar price tag has saved me MANY $1000's over the years.

I settled on this little jewel. Its kept me ticketless so far but you can,t beat a laser unless you get a lidar jammer system...but you better have some cash on hand when thinking on getting one. http://www.laserjammertests.com

Mine saved me on the trip back from Atlanta last night...2 or 3 times. So far I've only been defeated when using a V1 twice in about 7 or 8 years...once I was distracted and not using my eyes near Hendersonville NC (a known trap), and once I got lasered south of Atlanta at 2am doing 77mph by a cop hiding under a bridge overpass about 7 lanes and one concrete exit divider to the right (with the average speed of ATL traffic I could not believe he stopped me).

I generally drive 5-7 over per the speedo, haven't had an issue and generally just maintain speed near cops/traps. How much over are you all generally cruising at that you need it?

I love my radar detector! I feel completely naked when I'm driving my SUV as the detector stays in the 8 at all times.

You could unplug it and take it off the bracket quickly if you wanted to store it in the glovebox when in some questionable neighborhoods.
