If at some point I fall *** into money, is there a way to buy these, except at the silly price from a Mazda dealer?

 

I'm half interested in this as well and wondering how many others would be.

I know of a place local to me that sells OEM wheels at a good 40-50% lower then MSRP. Perhaps I could stop in one day and talk to them....

 

Would be interesting to at least know about an option. I'm sure they will be *** expensive anyway

 

Just have some $ saved up and keep an eye on the FS section here on the forum. As time goes by and more R3's are purchased, some owners are bound to get new wheels and will likely sell the OEM's here. Some will hold on to them along with the new wheels but most will sell them to offset the cost of their new setup.

Trouble is, very few R3s have been sold and I don't see that changing anytime soon, so these are some rare wheels and if you are lucky enough to find them for sale they aren't likely to be cheap.

I've seen some sold here already.
Just keep an eye on the F/S thread or hope that Paul gets his hands on an R3 and parts her out.

 

I like these wheels but still do not understand why so many jizz their shorts over them. So many better options out there. Lighter, wider, better style and better offset. These would have to be really cheap before I'd consider putting them on my car.

I saw them in person the 40th Anniversay two years ago at the Auto Show and I serioulsy though, "WTF?! They're hideous."

 

wait you know the 40th ann has smaller, lighter colored wheels. they are not the same as R3 wheels. You probly know this but I am confused by your post. Remember, I have never posted anything remotely valuable to anyone so this is probly just another display of ignorance on my part.

 

I understand they're different but the style of the wheel VERY similar.
The idea for the R3 wheels was derived from the 40th anniversary.

ya but the color of a wheel makes a huge difference. the r 3's kinda look like a dark titanium finish. Raw and metallic. the 40th ann. wheels are smaller, and are brighter, lighter colored aluminum finish. I was surprised when I saw an R3 in person the other day, the wheels look really quite different than the ones on mine.

 

allow me to rephrase for those who still do not understandmy position.
I do not care for the lame DESIGN of the R3 / 40th Anniversary wheel. The small rotor shape integrated in the wheel is (to me) a cheap looking attempt to continue with the rotor shapes on the car. At least the rest of the rotors are strategically placed and not just thrown into a wheel.

Regardless of the color or size, I just do not understand the huge fascination with these wheels.
Fortunately for me, I do not like the R3 package either so I never have to deal with these on my car. (but that's a topic for another day...)

 

Jedi are you kidding me?? those wheels look great! Except for the design...........and the offset....and the width..........and the color.

but aside from that, those wheels look great

They are both light and strong, the finish is awesome and they look really good. If you haven't got a taste then just leave immediately :P

You can't even compare the 40th anniversary to the R3. Once you have seen tires with gunmetal / titanium finish you can't explain it on a message board. My Enkei GTC01 have an awesome finish you just don't see on the pics. So if you like the wheel and know it's light and well constructed. Hell yeah.

I don't know what you guys call expensive, but I'm sure they wouldn't go for 200 bucks each

 

Nothing is 'wrong' with it.

It's just a matter of preference really. I know Jedi and I know he would agree that getting more rubber to the road is a good thing. I would prefer to see a little wider but nothing is 'wrong' with it in it's current form.

 

I could score decent used wheels between $200 - $250 per. I can definitely score some great used wheels in the $400 per range that fit my needs.
