I just got my 04 RX8 and im afraid to go over 110 cause it's new, so i was wondering if this car does. anyone know if 04 have limiters?

myriadshalaks 03-28-2007 12:18 AM

my guess is that so long as you have the manual, you can get just over 150. probably best to save that for the track though.

sunshineRX8 03-28-2007 12:19 AM

yes i do so there is no limiter right?

StealthTL 03-28-2007 12:27 AM

Pends.......

Depends where you are - the JDM model is limited, the US model isn't.

The AT is limited, the MT ain't.

Im in the california US so i can take it the max is what your saying? hmmmmm

myriadshalaks 03-28-2007 12:33 AM

go for it, but don't come crying when you total it. I had mine up to 135, and, I have to admit, even though the car isn't at all shaky, things get a bit scary at those speeds. the slightest screw up and ... toast.

maybe i just need to get used to it.

chickenwafer 03-28-2007 01:27 AM

140 is the fastest I've ever gone, but the road started to get just slightly hilly, which made me back off. Plus I think my fuel gauge was going down as I was driving! LOL

Drkdelfi 03-28-2007 01:34 AM

You just got an 04 and its brand new? Seems it would have mileage on it already so the engine is broken in, btw its very nice looking

sunshineRX8 03-28-2007 01:37 AM

yeah new for me it has 19000 so not to bad hopefully (fingerscrossed)

NoTears316 03-28-2007 08:29 AM

Are we about to get some new footage for COPS?

dmc27 03-28-2007 11:13 AM

no. just new fodder for the "oh, that d8ck just made my insurance go up" crowd.

who's got that cat biting the hand clip - it's needed.

CarAndDriver 03-28-2007 11:21 AM

Calling 911.

I do belive that most, if not all, cars have speed governors. BTW, I know what you meant, but I can't help myself, but an '04 isn't new. That is, if your worried about anykind of break-in procedure--don't. It's prolly broken in. ;)

If you're in a controlled environment, where you can't kill anyone or yourself, then go for it! Stomp on the gas til you feel the engine cut out. Then you'll know if you can break 110.

ANTI-FLAME DISCLAIMER
: DO NOT try this on the highway, freeway, surface streets, etc. Go get you some track time, new tires and have at it.

BTW, in case you haven't picked up on it by now, don't post things like this without an "anti-flame disclaimer!" There are people on this site, *coughs* cops *coughs,* and other delicate sensibilities that would not like to read about you doing 110 in public areas. Some will actually faint at the mention of tripple-digit speeds. So beware the bacon.

Mmmmmmm, unexplained bacon...

a yellow 8 going over 110 on public roads isnt crazy at all.

otakurx 03-29-2007 11:59 AM

I have taken the 8 to 135mph because my girlfriend said she wanted to go fast. But the fastest I have gone was in a Celica GT-Four turbo at 178mph. It's very scary, I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. But ya my girl said she couldn't believe how smooth the car was. 8-)

RufusVonStorm 03-29-2007 05:34 PM

The fastest I've gone in the 8 is 130 give or take, on a long stretch of I-10 btwn CA/NV. The car still feels very stable at that speed, and I earned my first 22348b during the trip. Approx. $1,000 donation to the city of blythe. Buying some track time is probably much less expensive overall.

there is a vid out there with an MT on a dyno hitting 156 mph in 5th and 184 in 6th, however due to wind dynamics the car tops out in 5th somewhere in the mid 150's. There was a guy in germany who put it in 6th at that speed and got it up to 159, but he said it was on a slight decline and then wouldn't go any further...

I think the auto's are restricted to 125 mph...

Stavesacre21 03-30-2007 07:13 AM

Just outta curiosity, why 110? Why not 100? or why not like 75? Fear of speed is usually relative to something frightful. 110 is no more scary then 100. What's the assimilation? (BTW - just a lil FYI - by the time you get up to 120 ACTUAL speed, the speedo will be reading 125 per GPS accuracy)

I'd think that if it's a NEW 8, even AROUND 110 means your already far out of break-in RPM ranges anyway. Not smart.

However, from previous gathered knowledge, they haven't made a yellow 8 since 2004, and unless Mazda had it stored in a warehouse, the likelihood that it would be below 3000 miles (break-in) would be rather catastrophic.

Thus deaming my point, useless. Good job me.

I disagree. In the 8, more people would be comfortable at 100 than say 110 cause once you get up to ~115 things don't feel as stable in the car anymore. You also have less and less control of the wheel with every increasing mph should something bad happen, so the fear is understandable.

He said his car already has 19k on it. I'd be willing to bet the previous owner(s) have already taken it to at least 120.

Stavesacre21 03-30-2007 07:28 AM

pardon my ignorance, totally missed the miles on the car.

and yes, i do agree that it gets a lil shaky at those speeds. I was starting to feel some mean vibrations above 120. Unless you bought your 8 off of an elderly person, 100 is a gimme, and as jerky states, 120 wouldn't be doubtful.

JeRKy 8 Owner 03-30-2007 01:56 PM

It's ok we still love you

StewyRX8 03-30-2007 04:54 PM

I'm sure you can get to a good speed in your 8... :evil_laug
