Questions To Ask Over The Phone?

Well, there is an 06 that I am pretty sure I will end up purchasing. It's just under $14,000 with 52,000 miles. I pretty much know enough about the 8 that there isn't much a dealership could tell me over the phone. It's 3 hours away, and my wife and I have 2 kids. So it's kind of a one time shot. I'd rather not have to spend a whole day looking at a car and not buy it.

So, I'm wondering what sort of things I should ask on the phone. I'm pretty sure I don't want to talk about price or anything like that.

So what would you guys ask?

:/ if your not going to discuss price i wouldnt really know what to ask. Basic info like milage etc. is prob on the site and any questions like "Does the engine run nicely without any minor problems" the dealer will just answer in the most biased way possible anyway.

ask if they have the maintenance history of the car. And if they don't ask if they'll honor the Mazda warranty!!
Maybe ask if they have new plugs/coils in the car

Yea I would want the car maintenance records, A car fax report. Also since the plugs, wires and coils are so expensive I would want a fresh tune up and an engine decarb.

I picked up my car 22 hours away, had a friend check it out for me.

As someone mentioned the dealers dont know sh*t. I asked for history and recent maintence. And I made it perfectly clear to the dealer that if I found something with the car that he had not mentioned I would leave in a heartbeat

Try checking the forums to see if there is anyone near that area and if they would be willing to go and check out the car for you. You really want to have a maintenance report, compression test, and the general condition of the body.
