Questions about the 04 AT Governor

I have an automatic 4 speed 2004. I want to take it on the track, just to try it out and see what the car can really do. I heard (and searched) and found that the auto has a 125mph governor on it (the MT doesnt?). Well, I WANTED an AT, so please don't tell me to sell my car just to buy the MT version.

The car is currently stock, aside from a KN filter, but I plan on saving $$ this whole winter to add a lot more power in the future (exhaust, Suspension, FI, etc...). But the problem is that I don't want to invest all the money if the car will not go faster than 125mph due to electronic governor restrictions.

Is there a way to eliminate the governor? Can I use an AP to do it? Is there another way to remove it? If I add a turbo or other big upgrades, will that overrule the governor automatically(doubtful)?

YES! I searched the forum, I did find a post of someone with an automatic who hit the 125 limit and then there were 2 pages of hating on him for the danger (it was on street).

Anyways, these are basic questions hopefully, I am not going to be stupid in terms of the way I drive my car on or off the track, it just seems this car is capable of a lot more than my current stock AT is.

Thanks.

as far as I know, there's no way to remove the restriction. Phil's8 has a Supercharged AT that was being tuned by Mazdamaniac two weekends ago and MM commented on the damn limiter. If it were possible to remove via the AP, I'm sure he'd have done so.

Wow you searched! That's incredible!
Sorry I really have no idea. If it can't really be done with the AP, could it be done with the RB flash?

Yep.. 125 is all your going to get. I've tested this just the other day. 6port AT will redline in 4th at about 125 when shifting into 5th there is nothing at all. sucks

As stated above if there was a way around this it would have been found by now.

I think you can buy a chip on ebay to remove the limiter.

Best story I found so far, was someone who said:

"When you get to 125 and hit the limiter, pump the clutch a bit and ride it, the MPH will start climbing again!"

the limiter is more of a gearbox reason than the engine especially on the 6 ports and if i remember correctly the auto stayed the same so the 09s probably have it too

What kind of track were you thinking of driving on? Unless it has long straights & high banks I doubt you could hit 125 in an AT. I base that on what it took me to break 125 in a MT on big tracks like Pocono & Watkins Glenn. Braking points come faster than you think.

I only have a limiter in 3rd gear (and maybe lower gears) and not 4 gear. It is my understanding that very early 04s did not have it but other 4 ports did.......The AP can not remove it or MM would have done so for my 3rd gear limiter.

There is someone in Japan that says he can remove it but I know of no one here. Sorry I would be pissed to if all I could do is 125mph.

I have posted several times that I can reach 153 mph but become airborne at that point.

I've hit 115mph pretty easy while stock and the numbers did not seem like they wanted to slow down much while climbing.

I am not trying to be combative or offensive, but is it really that hard hitting 125 with an AT? My 0-120 is ~23-25 seconds (stock, unless you count the +50hp from my clear corners), from 70-80, far quicker. Quick enough that I can easily hit 120 (top of 4th) between packs of cars on the highway without much thought or effort. Is it really 3-5 minutes of work?

I guess I never really thought of what the limit of revs really does to top end.
