How much should 4 brand new winter tires, and 4 spark plugs be, not done by myself, or mazda...by local mechanic

 

Tires are at least $100 each plus mounting and balancing. Spark plugs are about $100. The bill should be somewhere in the neighborhood of $700-800.

 

I would say the estimates are close. Winter/Snow tires would be between $125-250, depending on brand. Check the Discount Tire (Tires.com) & The Tire Rack (tirerack.com) for a comparison. These will most likely be a little cheaper than your local dealer.
$100 is a good price for the sparkplugs, installation would be additional.

 

Just got off the phone with mazda and the spark plugs retail for about $38.95 each. Most shops get about 20% off dealer list and said my cost would be about $32.00 each.

The leading and trailing spark plugs are different, but cost the same, and I was told the trailing plugs are on back order (1 week+). The labor calls for 0.5 hours labor, which in my area (Charlotte, NC) would be $37.50.

38.95 each for spark plugs damn. When I had my bmw the spark plugs were 19 dollars a peice.

 

Anyone know why they are so much?
