A question of height
A question of height
I'm working on convincing a friend to buy an RX-8, but he is a little taller than I am...I'm 6'2", he's about 6'4"
I am perfectly comfortable in the car, I was just wondering if there's anyone a little taller than me that has it so I can tell him for real that he'll be fine driving it

I think it's all a matter of preferred seating position and torso height. I'm about 6'1" with a 34" inseam. Given my comfortable seating position, I have about another inch or room. A friend of mine, who is also 6'1" couldn't find a comfortable position without hitting his head. BTW, I have the sunroof and that makes a huge difference.

I'm 6'2" and I fit fine. I also have the sunroof. I don't know how much room was lost with that because I never sat in one with out. Torso length versus leg length will make a difference. I have a 34-36 inseam. I also way in at 225 and I am not uncomfortable at all. Nice and snug fit and I don't move around even with the leather.
I'm 6'4" with 35" inseam, and I have to recline the seat at about a 20 degree angle to avoid brushing my hair on the roof. Power seat is at its lowest position. I have the sunroof, but sat in one without the sunroof before mine arrived, and there's a BIG difference. 1.5" is a lot where headroom is concerned. Most people wouldn't drive in the position that I do, but I've gotten used to it, having had an RX-7 prior to this one. If you don't have poofy hair, you'll have a lot more room. I have to keep my hair cut pretty short, or it rubs against the headliner, which I find very annoying.
Headroom
I had the same concern when I was going to buy my RX-8. I didn't like my head/hair brushing the roof liner. After asking around, I found that the best way to get the most headroom was to not get the sunroof or the electric/leather seats. Unfortunately, even if you wanted the leather seats, they only come in the package that includes the sunroof. Without those two items, I have plenty of headroom. Hope this helps.

Maybe Mazda should start making Dew Rags with an RX-8 logo on them.

I let a friend of mine drive my 8, he's 6'5" an fit just fine (after alot of seat adjusting).
I asked him if he was comfortable behind the wheel and he was so comfortable, he didn't want to end his road test. I did notice however... if he didn't sport a jarhead haircut, his hair would have been brushing the liner. Also, his seating position was more reclined than what I am used to, so for those tall people who like to sit more upright, you might have a problem. We did go over several bumps harder than I would have driven over them and he didn't bump his noggin on the ceiling. Aww hell, just rip out the front seat and sit in the back while you drive.

^ ditto.

I wonder if that's just for the US cars. In Canada you can get the leather seats without the roof...I have one like that.

My inseam is a full 36, I'm split pretty well down the middle, I just move the seat part where the back of it is lower than the front, then recline the back, that gives you a more L shaped posture, then I can actually move my seat up a little depending on how comfortable the extension of my arms are.
