A question on the break-in procedure

When I took delivery of my 06 about 2.5 weeks ago, Mazda had a service insert recommending that the first oil change take place at 3750 miles, and then every 7500 miles/6 months after that.

Why would I need to change it after the first 1,000 miles? And what is there to worry about if I don't?
