Question From Barry

Hey Guys, my new 2005 RX-8 would not start this morning. I keep getting the symbol on the dashboard of the immobilizer ( a key inside a car symbol). That is the only key I have as the dealer, who is located of state, is ordering another master and a valet key. I guess I will have to have the local dealer do whatever is done to make the car recognize the key...and will most likely have to have it towed. Has anybody else had this problem?

Check for blown fuses. Also are there any devices in or around the car that give off radio waves? Something could be causing interference.

Fuse....

ExpoGuy is on the right track, my guess would be the ECU fuse, top middle, underhood, 30 amp.

Hope it's that simple.....

You can also try locking and unlocking the driver door with the key in the lock.

Does the remote lock and unlock the car?

Did you read through the manual? There is a section in there that talks about having problems if you have other "Electronic" Keys/cards on the keychain, or metal touching the key or ignition. Just a thought... if I had the manual handy I would post a page number.

I had the same problem when I had both the key for the 8 and the key for the 3 on the same keychain. Sometimes, the immobilizer kicked in and I would turn the key, and... nothing. I no longer carry both keys at the same time.

There is nothing else attached to the master key. To get into the car I had to use the key manually as the car will not respond to its electronic signal. Hopefully it's not a major problem and will be fixed today. Thanks for the feedback.

Well, after almost three hours of waiting the tow truck picked up my little red baby and towed her to the local dealership. Later this afternoon I received a frantic call from the service dept. asking if I had the key to the ignition. Apparently the tow truck driver had it and forgot to pass it on. Hopefully I will get my little machine back tomorrow. One service tech type said it might be as simple as just a bad battery.
