When you hit the remote button on the trunk release how high up does/should the trunk open?

Mine just pops up an inch. In other cars I've had the trunk would open all the way..

Anyone else?

It's only a release so yeah, it's just gonna pop open an inch. It's not motorized to open all the way or close by itself.

So, normal.

The down side is that if you pop it unintentionally, you have no visual reminder to close it again. There is no "trunk open" light on the dash - I drove around for a day and a half with mine ajar once. The only indication that it's not closed is that the lights will not flash when you lock the car, which I thought was an alarm problem until I eventually discovered the trunk open.

...and if it's pop's open accidentally (if it were to open all the way) no one walking nearby has a free look at the contents of your trunk and steal stuff.

My problem with the trunk release, is the button is really hard to locate while sitting in the car. A little more visibility would have been nice.

There is a series of small braille-like bumps moulded into the button - I just feel for those.

When my CEL came on, I stopped, popped the hood and trunk and checked my oil (with the intention of getting a quart out of the trunk). My oil level was fine, so off I went. I then discoverd that when I pressed my fob the yellow lights did not flash to indicate the alarm was armed (although when I pressed a second time, the horn did sound). Anyway I thought the alarm was part of my CEL problem. It was not. Since I forgot to securely close the trunk, the alarm was indicating that the perimeter was not secure. Closed the trunk and the lights then worked as they should. My dumb.

The CEL turned out to be a thermostate problem.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I wanted to thank you guys anyway.

I just used my trunk release button in the car and the one on the key fob last night, and they both worked. Then, today neither one would. I was stumped.

So, I came on this board, did a quick search, and boom - there's the answer. Check the disabler in the glove compartment, moron! Sure enough, somehow the trunk release had been turned off. How this happened, I have no idea. I didn't open the glove compartment from last night to this morning. Maybe I went over a big bump as I drove in to work this morning ... or something.

Anyway, thanks for the help - you guys are the experts and a very helpful bunch!

Here's another variation - not a good one either. Pop and forget or pop unintentionally... and leave the trunk open that little bit - - then leave the car a day or so - no battery twice so far!

I just put compact booster cables in the back with the air pump.

maybe you didn't use the trunk opener since you had the airbag recall done?

My opener was disabled after the airbag recall (they work on the glove box there) and it took me a week to notice it.

The only downside I see with the trunk not opening up all the way when you press on the key fob is if you were walking out of the store with your hands full. It's a little hard to open the lid without putting down the groceries or heavy object. Although I have read somewhere about the struts are suppose to be replaced for those with a spoiler installed. The new, more powerful struts are to compensate for the heavier lid and (correct me if I'm wrong) open it all the way. Mine only opens 1 inch and so I was wondering if anyone now still have this little problem?

I've got the factory spoiler (not the huge wing) and when I pop mine I only get a tiny bit of lift, not even an inch.

Mind you, it's not enough to re-close itself, but the lid rests on the latch after a pop. If they do come out with stronger struts it would be nice if they retro-fit us...

Has anyone noticed the trunk opening without pushing any buttons

At least three times in the last week, I have arrived at work and find the trunk is open.

When I unlock the car with the key fob in the morning, the only sound I hear is the door unlocking and the trunk does not. I don't hit any buttons while driving, and yet when I arrive at work the trunk is open. I have not noticed the same thing happening on the return trip, yet.

I'am experiencing the same behavior... I thought I was accidentaly rubbing the button next the the hood opener but it's not the case. I am puzzled.
Any news on your side for this ?

I realized that everytime the trunk was inexplicably open the LoJack Early Warning had been triggered. This ended up being due to a weak battery in the LoJack device on my keyring. For those not familiar with it, Early Warning is a direct notification to you that your car may have been moved without your permission/knowledge. (In other words, it does not recieve the LoJack signal from your keyring when the car starts moving.) This is separate from the standard LoJack signal that is triggered for police tracking after you report the theft.

It appears that when LoJack sends out the Early Warning signal, it also triggers the trunk. Replaced the battery and have had no reoccurance. So do you also have LoJack Early Warning?

I'have just installed a similar device on my car last week (in Canada, it's called Boomerang. Just got bought by Lojack). But I don't have the key chain device model and therefore I don't have and early warning signal switch. I suspect there is still a corelation with this.
I will check with my Boomerang installator for this.

I have been having the same problem with my 05. Trunk appears to be randomly opening- at first I thought I was accidentally hitting the release on the FOB but now I'm not so sure.

Had my Boomerang/Lojack instalator verify it's knowledge base (and call Lojack).
They found the problem. When they installed the module, they hooked up to the Trunk release cable for it's power feed. When Boomerang/Lojack does a remote random system verification, it triggers the trunk opener.
Having it fixed tomorrow.

Mystery solved.
