Question about thief

I brought a silver rx-8 in october, this past week I took a trip to philly and my car was stolen right from infront of my door, there was no signs of force entry and I REALLY don't understand how someone could do that with the techonlogy that the RX-8 has. Does anybody know how someone could have pulled this off? I am pretty sure that my doors were locked, there was no broken glass where my car used to be (maybe because of the tint I had on my car), I really just don't understand how someone pulled this off. Do anybody else have any ideas how this happened?

They could have towed it. The best answer to high tech is usually low tech, and the RX 8 does not come with a mercury sensor alarm standard.

Where in Philadelphia were you? Sorry for you, and I hope that you were fully insured for theft. Man that sucks

I was in germantown, I am fully insurance and I have that ECP/Auto armor thing, but I just got that car, I barely broke it in, I am just trying to find out ways they did it, so when I get my next vehicle I can be prepared for thief.

Question. If your car was stolen, how do you know there was forced entry?

I recall reading a thread on the forum about an RX-8 being stolen out of the LAX parking lot. Apparently, the parking lot attendant recalled seeing the car being driven out of the lot. Speculation was that the thieves had access to Mazda tools and information that allowed them to enter the car and drive it away. If true, that certainly is a bit disturbing.

Hopefully your insurance company won't do to you what they're doing to my stepson which is accuse him of having his car stolen because "there were no signs of forced entry, therefore the thieves must have had the key because this car can't be stolen" bla bla bla. It's been 90 days and they sent him a letter saying "they are continuing the investigation". Since there's nothing to really investigate because this never happened, that means they are going to stall and delay as long as they feel like. My stepson in the meantime has to still make payments on the car, which he doesn't have and can't do a thing about.

If your insurance company starts to give you the runaround, get aggressive and vocal about it. My wife and I went to our agent and lit a fire under his butt to get this resolved, otherwise we'll take all our insurances on our home and cars elsewhere, followed by getting a lawyer and the appropriate legal action.

How much does it cost to get Lojack put in your car? My dealer sells it but the service/accessory department is closed for the holiday weekend so I can't get a price. Might be a good idea to get it in my car.

That sucks Ole Spiff.

So if a person like say a housemate steals the keys and drives it the police don't consider this stealing?!

They couldn't get away with just having one key and copying it either. In order for the key to work it would have to have the code added to the car database to disable the transponder system. To do this for a copied key they have to have at least 2 already programmed keys to have the third new key added to the cars database for the codes.

Tow truck does sound like the best bet.

I keep mine in the garage and was thinking about replacing the loud garage door opener but now I think I'll keep it as a cheap alarm for the cars.

When I was shopping Insurance companies. It was anywhere between 10-20% of the premium. Mikeb does that sound about right?

I dont mean to play Devils Advocate or anything..

But my intuition tell me that you are posting this to attain information about the Rx-8 so you can go steal one yourself??

Sorry if my gut reaction is telling me this, it has happend before, some new person comes on and makes their first post about a vehicle being stolen and sure enough they were out to steal the same car they asked about.

But.. i will still show my sympathy to you and get this situation handled as soon as you can, insurance companies can be a real pain in the ***.

PLUS, Police is out in full force during the holiday season until new years to help enforce DWI's so they'll be on the look out for sure.

best of luck to ya

You might want to think twice about that. Consider this thread:
