I hope this is the right forum for this and if not Im sorry Im trying to post in the correct forums

I am interested in buying those tinted headlight overlay things, there not really headlight covers but more like a tinted sticker I quess you could say. In NJ headlight covers tinted or even non tinted are illegal. does anyone know if the item Im talking about would be illegal in NJ? I contacted the manufactuer of the item and they did not know so I figured here would be best place to ask.

In your post it says you know its illegal in NJ but want to know if its legal in NJ. I assume you are asking about Pennsylvania since your location says Philadelphia. Here is the Pennsylvania vehicle code, PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services - Vehicle Code . I gave it a little look and under lighting I see nothing about tinting headlights or obstructing the light coming out of them but I may have missed it. Other sources are stating it is illegal and I honestly hope it is.

I have never understood why someone would tint their headlights, you obviously wont be able to see as well. A truck drove by me yesterday that had their headlights completely blacked out, they would be really fucked if they drove at night. I am just curious why you want to do this even if it just a very light tint?

 

I have had a similar product on a different car and it did slightly dim the headlights but it certainly didnt dim them enough for it to be an issue for myself or other drivers at night. If it did severely limit visibility I of course wouldnt use them but as I said they only slightly dim them and with the new high intensity lights its actually a good thing since those things look like high beams at night
