Also very interested, as I am currently looking at the 8-- one of the best looking cars imo. Would love to get it. I know the MPG is not great (20mpg on average i think) but i am also curious about the long term reliability.

People who do not own RX-8's. do not know about RX-8's. Yes the gas mileage isnt as good as a honda...but are you trying to compair our car to a honda? Please... An RX-8 will last just as long as most cars as long as you maintain it right.

PS. If you do get an RX-8. you should search next time before asking questions that have been discussed many times before.

I would think it would be hard to find one with high mileage as the car has only been out for about 4 or 5 years. I would not use this system to judge a cars reliability (spotting high mileage examples on lots).

My 8 usually gets 14-18 mpg city and I have achieved 23 mpg highway (that's driving like a bat out of hell every where I go revving to the redline 9 times out of ten and sitting at lunch sometimes in my car for an hour while idling!).

2008 Honda Accord V6 Coupe test in this months Car & Driver or one of those big 4 car mags was 17 mpg city, 23 or 24 mpg highway. And it's not a sports car.

Reliability: Rotary engines were always commonly known for their reliability back in the day. A Mazda RX-8 just took first place in 24 hours of Daytona race so that says something. Granted this isn't really close to the same engine you would have in yours (but it is a rotary engine).

PS- if your getting a PureWhite RX-8 then you're already heading in the right direction.

figure out your budget for gas before deciding on any car.

Cars aren't fun or practical if you can only afford to drive it one day a week.

That being said I ususally budget myself $180 a month for gas if I daily drive (work 15 miles from my house, and my gf lives 15 miles away also) So its not a stretch to put 60-80 miles per day down a few times a week for me.

1.they are a great daily driver.
2. we have a bunch of members with over 100,000. I am sure a couple will chime in. Or search 100,000
3. yes
4. done that trip TONS of times. I average about 24mpg, and still have the power to pass people up those long hills. But you will need to stop. (small tank)

Listen . . . if you want a boring, slow, no ***** gettin commuter . . . get a honda. Hondas have their positives, I actually like Hondas, but at the end of the day . . . it is JUST a honda
If you are a true car enthusiast, and especially if you really enjoy driving, you will LOVE this car.

Don't know the distance from LA to Las Vegas, but you'll have to stop every 300 miles or so to gas up.

In the fall I took a 400 mile trip (each way) from NoVa to Charlotte. Just fine on the long haul. The only problem was that my passenger complained about the seat. He's about 6' 3", 280 pounds. He found that the bucket seat was a little tight, and squeezed his *** together so he couldn't fart.

Personally, I found his issue to be of great benefit to me.

They are plenty of people with over 100k now.

Milage is dependent upon how you drive.

Sure it's not good on gas but so are all spoerts cars and BMW's.

So what's your point?

keep it in mind, you're buying the car, not your friend!

If MPG is a concern of yours, this car isn't for you.

Last tank I got 11.5 mpg.

changing the seal? you mean adding oil once in a while, right? coz if something goes wrong with your seal (if you're referring to the apex seal) means you have a blown engine and you need a new/reman one

QFT.

The 8 is perfectly serviceable as a daily driver anywhere that you won't get severe weather (not so good in the rain or snow but it can still be done with good tires)

It drinks gasoline like the sports car it is; and for a sports car, it is very reliable, which translates to not nearly as reliable as a Honda.

Performance, reliability, low cost. Pick 2.

what Honda are you looking at?.. do you need 4 seats and 4 doors?.... the rotary is awesome, but i wouldn't mind getting an s2000 either

Being the 8 is a sports car at heart, it isn't as maintenance free compared to todays combustion engine. Oil change MUST be done without fail... you can't go oh.. i'm at 3k, i don't have $ to do it until 2 weeks later, but i drive 1000 miles a day, so going 5k without an oil change, or just with dirty oil in general will land you needing a new engine sooner then later.
