A Question about dealing with Corporate Mazda...
Hello all,
I own an "04 rx8 with 93,000 miles on it.
Lately i have been having starting issues, the service dept says my engine compression is slowly fading away,... essentially, my engine is dying...
Now I did not get an extended warranty... but the service guy gave me a 800 number too see what Mazda may do for me.
My questions are:
Anyone else with this sort of situation?
What kind of compensation from Mazda can I expect?
Any help on this would be appreciated...

The thing is that, if you've *never* did the engine recall. you *can* go ahead and do it now, they will give you a replacement (a reman)
but other than that ... you will not get anything.
but seriously. Have you ever change your coils ? @ 93K miles Im sure u change your plugs b4 (if you didnt, please dont post anymore).
If you never change your ignition coils before, change them, with new set of spark plugs wires and maybe a new set of plugs. You will get a brand new feel. I dont guarantee that it will solve your problem, but in a lot of cases. this will solve it.

I am the original owner, this car has never seen a Jiffy Lube, only the dealer for everything.
I love this car, oil changes strict and done by the service dept.
I did get new coils after about 61,000 (the engine light would flash for misfires)...did not fix the problem...
Got a new clutch, about 7,000 mile ago...( my fault... )
Again, I love this car , and the dealer I go to for service has my car's entire service record...

It might be just carbon stuff inside. a few good tanks of good system cleaner like redline might be able to solve your problem
still cheaper than trying an engine so fast
oh by the way, if in the end its really your engine, you might want to get a reman from our beloved Paul @ Mazmart. for about 2.5-3K, you can get one of the best rotary engine rebuilds from them.

I did do the engine recall and passed.
The service guy seems to think my situation qualifies for some kind of help from Mazda...

Maybe you can have the service manager from your dealership make some calls? I recall there are regional service managers for Mazda, so maybe he can go up that chain and see what happens.

when did you do the recall ?
6.5 @ what RPM ?
You need to ask for those because rpm can affect the numbers greatly.
Another thing is, if you *just* did your recall recently, the motor should be good for a long while. MOST dealerships never followed the Mazda's guidelines for the recall, Thats why a lot of those *oh I did the recall and pass and then 2 months later my motor is dead!* kind of post shows up. ITs not Mazda's fault really, dumb *** dealerships @ fault.
So check what I said above, come back and let us know.

That is a raw deal but what is the hurt in calling them and seeing what can happen? Just talk professionally and use big words to wow the corporate office. Thats what I do when ever I dispute my cell phone bills.

OK, I told them my story.
They are going to verify my story with the dealer I went to, and discuss whether they will help me out...getting back to me in 24 hrs ...

Well, They offered to pay $2000 for engine replacement, where I pay the difference (labor etc.).
I asked if they would be willing to give me a discount on another Mazda purchase instead.
I said I was interested in the Mazdaspeed 3. They got back to me and said any car but that one because it was a limited production car...They would give me up to 6 grand off a Mazdaspeed 6.
I asked if they were willing to give me a free extended warrenty on a MS3.
they got back to me with this:
I can buy an MS3 Grand Touring with navigation...at dealer invoice (25,155) plus a $500 coupon.
Sound like a good deal?
I am spending the weekend thinking about it. I may go test drive an MS6, but I really want that MS3...
BTW, I would get another RX8, but they cost more and the price of gas is impacting my commute way more than I expected...
