Question about changing tranny and diff fluid

I have done manual tranny and differential fluid change this afternoon.

Actually, I can feel slightly diffrernce before and after, not huge improvement.

BTW, I have two questions.

First, I bought on/off fluid filler tool at Autozone, but I could not find

the bottle has a standrad quart sized opening, so I also bought 2 bottles

of washer fluid. I came back home, throw out all washer fluid and filled up

with one bottle for tranny fluid and another bottle for diff fluid.

I know I had to wash, rinse, and dry first, but I did realize until I finish job

becuase I was so exciting to getting smoth shifting.

I think the tranny and diff fluid were mixed with washer fluid little bit left

in the billte and I just fill it up into transmission and differential.

Is it going to OK? or is it going to hurt my baby?

Second, I think I put 1.8 qts in tranny, but little over filled in differential.

I think I put about 1.5~6 qts diff fluid. I realized that I over fill because I could

see the fluid was leaking out of filler hole. I just stop there and finished up my

job. Is it OK to put in little too much fluid than what it is recomanded?

Thanks.

BTW, after I changed it, I drove 20 miles already.

Is this an auto or manual trans?

Washer fluid contains water and ammonia. I'm not sure how extensive the damage would be, but water does displace oil, so it being inside of your tranny and diff. is not a good thing.

I know on truck differentials, the "standard" is to fill it up until it comes out of the filler hole. I'm not sure about the 8, but I don't see why it would cause an issue.

I would change the fluids again. Might not be a lot of contamination from the washer fluid, but there's some and if you do another change you'll dilute it to nearly nothing.

You're fine on the level. The customary way of filling a manual transmission or differential is to put oil in until it runs out the filler hole. That's why the filler holes are where they are. In the old days, an oil and lube job included checking transmission and rear end oil levels. The check was to see if oil was up to the hole.

U better make sure there was no washer fluid left.

Just fill it in thru the fill hole, until it comes out. then u close it.

but I guess u should flush it again

Many thanks.

I just reorder 4 bottles. I know Im stupid, but was good experience.

BTW, how do I drain out the fluid in tranny and differential?

Even though fluid drains out of drain hole, I think little bit of fluid may be

left in there.

How do I make absolutely nice clean inside tranny and diff ?

Open the drain hole (the bottom hole), then loosen the fill hole a bit (top hole) so air goes in and the fluid goes out faster.

Same thing for Tranny and Rear diff

Yes there will be a little bit left at the bottom of the tranny/diff, but at least better than what you have now.

Just changed mine today as well. Used royal purple syncromesh for the tranny (manual tranny) and max gear for the differential. Also changed the oil and filter (castrol semi-synthetic, k&N filter). I also bought a manual pump for like 7 dollars in order to get the fluids in the hold being as how ull never get the fluid in with just the bottle. Took me about 1 hour to get everything done but well worth it as my fluids smelled burnt. Havent driven it much as i rode my bike but i doubt ill notice a significant difference in performance rather, i did this as preventative maintenance.
I dont think that the washer fluid would have an effect as it is fairly diluted. A few drops vs 1.X quarts isnt something i would worry to much about but if it puts ur mind at ease then swap it out. The pump that i bought was a perfct fit for the royal purple bottles. All supplies were purchased at pepboys. Good luck to ya.

Its royal purple really that good?, i changed my tranny after 8k miles on the car. and i used Lucas Transmission oil. Someone thats really experienced in Rx7s recommended to use it. and all he does it build drag cars, mostly rotary.

The dealer can do a tranny flush on it to remove all of the fluid, but I think it might be a little overkill for your situation.
