It has a can of fix-a flat. Pretty much these days, many of the new cars get this. My friends M3 has a can, even the new 911's have the fix-a flat stuff. Used to save weight & reduce costs. I have the spare tire kit in my car. not exactly the best solution, but better safe than sorry. I wish they would have made that small indentation at the bottom of our trunk bigger, and we could put the spare tire in there seamlessly. Oh well, just a dream.

Hi shak...and welcome. Anyone can get a flat, at anytime...and what you say is true. If you don't have a proper inflated spare taking up space in your boot then have to use the puncture kit (depending where you are in terms of assistance). If you use the puncture kit then your tyre is history, have to replace, but it can get you home or to a tyre shop. So if it's a minor puncture, don't use the kit. If you can't get help for a minor puncture and your stuck, then SOL, use the kit.

I am not sure why the tire would be history if you use the puncture kit then drive to the nearest gas station to properly inflate the tire and then get it repaired immediately. That is assuming it is a reasonable puncture and not one in the sidewall, and that you drive conservatively on the way to the gas station. I have used puncture kits many times on tires and have not had to replace the tire. On a couple of occasions I put in the fix-a-flat, took the tire up to standard pressure and drove the car for more then a year. I am not suggesting that you do this rather get the tire properly fixed soon. I am just not sure I understand why it would destroy the tire. I do know that any puncture voids the speed warranty of the tire regardless.

I wrote this somewhere else but can't find the thread.
You shouldn't use the tire after the puncture repair kit has been used on it.
The repair kit fills the tire with white gunk, which fills the hole long enough to get you to a garage.
The garage should then use the gunk bottle that you didn't throw away to suck out the gunk after they have broken the bead of the tire, then dispose of the gunk and the tire in an appropriate manner.

The reason you can't use the tire again is because once this gunk is in a hole in the tire, the integrity (I love that word) of a normal 'bung' type plug cannot be gauranteed. There is a risk the bung might slip out, because the gunk is coating the inside of the hole. This was not a Mazda decision, they were working on advice from the tire manufacturers.

So ends my story...

I have to assume that would go for the off brand fix-a-flat also. Well after I got a nail in mine discovered at the service department they fixed it but did reccomend I replace the tire. No gunk here.
