quest to get "m"

Tokk my 8 to the dealer for the 3k service (oil change)

TOld my adviser the 3 things I wanted him to do.

1 oil change

2 check AC for TSB fix (denied)

3 M flash as per TSB engine crank/no start where it stated ALL 8's ARE TO BE UPGRADED TO LEVEL "m" REGARDLESS of symptoms.

Got a call ----------6--------- hours later...."your car is done sir"

AC denied...oil change completed....and according to your VIN there are no other upgrades available at this time"

I WAS FLAMING PISSED.
I brought the TSB with me to pick up my car.
Gave to the service advisor.....(he didn't say much...he was just typing away on his computer)

Gave him my rental car keys back...and he says..."Oh you can keep those"...I say "What do you mean".....he says...."I'm going to keep your car until tomorrow"

I almost **** a house......

I said....."Oh no you are not.....you've had 6 plus hours to do what I TOLD YOU I NEEDED DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE.....YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE. Took my keyes and left.

UNBELIEVABLE
So...looks like I'll have to wait till the 7500 mile service....(shouldnt be but another month or 2 the way I'm driving)

Jeff

the worst part of it is how the service advisor was so receptive to me getting the M flash as I talked to him as I was dropping the car off.....

I made references to the TSB, but never gave him the hardcopy.....he seemed pretty receptive....as if he knew

I was very suprised when I didnt get it....
Just PITIFUL service.......PITIFUL

Jim Ellis MAzda of Chamblee.....by the way

kstkrt, sorry to hear, man...that sucks...I'm in the same boat as you as I want the same repairs. I can't wait to see how badly my dealership treats me...

Man, come to think of it...why should I expect to be treated badly?? This has never happen with any other brand I've owned. Damn, Mazda WAKE UP!!!

I purchased my 8 Friday (4/30). Since the build date on the car was 07/03, I took it in Saturday morning to see if it had already been flashed. Even though I provided them with the TSB number and revision date, they refused to even look at the car to see if it needed to be flashed.

I'm really not sure if I even need the M flash, but I hope that this is not the level of service I can expect in the future.

This was Mazda of Roswell.

ktskrt, I don't want to sound preachy here because I have been the angry customer before myself, but why didn't you ask the dealer to do the flash while you were still standing there? It only takes a few minutes, you would have been spared another trip to the dealer and they would have saved the cost of another day's rental. I know that they already had your car six hours and didn't do what you had asked, but a few deep breaths and a bit of negotiation should have resulted in a win-win.

kstkrt,
The vin range outlined in the tsb is those 8's already flashed M, am I not mistaken?

I took my 8 in 4/28/04 for my first oil change @ 1500 miles and I didn't ask or request that they flash M on my ECU I told them to. I am not a pushy customer (or tough guy haha) by any means but I made it very clear what I wanted the service rep to do....and he did.

Go to your sales guy.

I took mine in about 2 weeks ago before I had the TSB and they told me that my car didn't need it unless the check engine light came on. After I got the TSB I went directly to my sales guy. I figured since I bought the car from him and if he planed on selling me any more cars in the future, he would make me happy. Sure enough he did. I didn't even have to show him the TSB.
He walked me over to the service area, told the guy my car was having trouble starting and needed to be flashed with the latest upgrade. They scheduled it that day and it took about an hour. To confirm that I got the M flash, I asked for the version of the flash. It was SW-NBH6-EM000. The letter after the "E" is the flash version. I have confirmed that with experts on this forum. Be sure you check that.
Very happy with Eldorado Mazda in McKinney Tx.

Thanks- I am definitly going to try them after my next appointment with Manhattan Mazda (who never returned my 3 week old factory CD player when they installed my MP3 player- they stole it or threw it out- and seem to not be familiar with any Flashes or TSB's even though they are owned by Ford and have a service rep just for Mazda)

I still have my CD player in a box, wanna buy it?? .GN Mazda isnt perfect but im pretty sure theyr the best out of all the dealers in NYC area, i did showed them the TSB paper to get the flash but they didnt give me any problems, They always remember me cause i was the first RX8 engine replacement they had to do and they had my car for 31 1/2 days. The guy that did the repair owns a 8 himself and is one of the 2 mechanics they have that work exclusively on the rotary. Definately worth a try.
