Unhappy Problems

So tonight I was on my way home and on the freeway I decided to go up to 218km/h and was almost redline in 5th. after that i had to slow down and brake, and all was good until the check oil light came on and then the car made grinding sounds all the way back to the house, it sounds really really bad ... so i have no clue what this could be. can anyone help me out?

First did your check you oil level? Is the grinding noise coming from the motor or transmission?

check oil light? Was this light a red oil can symbol? if so, thats not check oil. thats a you're screwed shut the engine off ASAP. that light means you have lost oil pressue. check your oil before you bring it to a dealer....if you drop it off and there is no oil in it, you can kiss your engine warranty good bye. otherwise, if you are still in the 8 year 160 000km range, you should get a new engine under warranty (if it is the engine causing the problems) but be prepared to wait. there is a back order on engines right now (at least for ontario). good luck

So wait, the light came on, the car started sounding weird and you just continued to drive it?

You said it was the oil light, and you didn't think to at least check your oil?

If the oil light comes on the first thing you do is pull over and check your oil level, not drive it home. When was the last time toy checked your oil level? Tip #1 Check you oil level either every gas fill up or every over fill up, depending on how you drive your 8. The rotary engine burns oil

My oil light comes on at about 1 qt/ltr low. There is 4 1/2 qts in the sump and about 3 more in the oil coolers, in a manual trans car. An oil light on almost all other cars would mean your screwed. I seriously doubt it in this case (if the light just came on).

+1. redlining 2nd is much different from redlining 5th for the engine/transmission
