If you wait til something good like casterol is on sale, you can get oil & a filter for ~15$ at autozone or someplace like that, jut make sure it comes with a good filter.
... a dealer would be more like 35$ to get it done from what ive seen/paid in the past

You can ask in the California forum.
I would stay away from any oil change place.
Sounds like you need a mechanic.
Go to your local club meet, they will tell you the rotory shops in the srea or search the internet.

I get my oil changes at the dealer where I bought the car. They were free for the first two years...which got me in the habit of staying clean while they did the work. Regular cost is $30, which might be $10 more than I'd spend buying oil and filter.
Sign up in the owner's section at mazdausa.com, and link to a dealer in a convenient location. They'll have discount coupons for random services. I've paid as little as $10 for a change. My next one will be $15.
If you DIY or go to a regular shop, at least stop by a dealer and buy the OEM filter. It's better than most of the mass-market filters.

I plan on taking mine to the dealer for every oil change. This may be biased as it was taken from a conversation with the woman I talk to when I get my service done. I asked her about engine replacements under the 8 year Mazda-extended warranty and she told me getting your oil changed at the dealer really helps your case when they have to request an engine replacement from Mazda... she told me she's definitely had Mazda deny customers' requests for an engine replacement when they were unable to produce proof of regular oil changes and it's definitely a plus if the dealer has a record of every oil change you've done.
Oil changes aside, I plan on doing all other maintenance myself.

Dealer I work at offers $24.95 oil changes and buy 2 get one free. So its like $17 an oil change when its all said and done. Not a mazda dealership but its an oil change so whats the difference anyhow?

After years of fixing peoples cars because "the dealer/mechanic/jiffy,valvo,pep always "changes their oil". Just do it yourself if for no other reason then peace of mind. So many places skip so many steps. Fixed a bmw that the oil filter had not once been changed in many many many years. Filter came out in pieces (in pan filter) both plastic ends were fused to the housing. Just horrible messes when you don't change your own oil.
Will say the appropriate dealer does have more resources and is more likely to do the job correctly (just results in higher cost)
