110LL will work in your RX8 if you don't have a cat.. but you will have to watch your injectors and make sure they don't clog up.
^^on that note, I don'tthink the gas stations would really want you do a visual check of the fuel like you do for a pre-flight.^^
dezau are you with the AOPA???

The fuel door sticker on my wife's '94 V6 Camry just says "Unleaded," but the OM says premium with the usual "87 with lower performance" blurb.
I still use the recommended premium in both.

It's a hi compression engine for na. premium only, top tier grade fuel also.
HEY do like the guys at work, run out of beer and liqour while fishing? drink coleman fuel, good for a buzz, hell on the working parts.

why not its duty free fuel. Just like at the airport, the fuel is road tax free. You really could run 100LL in the Rotary and if you have no CAT it wouldn't hurt it at all, they do run these engines in airplanes. Also they run basically VW flat 4 engines in some cessnas.

You need to see what the owner's manual says. The sticker in my '06's fuel door says premium, but the owner's manual says down to 87 is OK with reduced performance.

I'm sure lots of people run it just fine though.
This vehicle is designed to use 91[ (R+M)/2 method] (96RON) or higher gasoline for best
performance. If 91[ (R+M)/2 method] (96RON) is not available, gasoline from 87 to 90[ (R
+M)/2 method] (91 to 95RON) can be used temporarily for emergency purposes, but this
will slightly reduce performance. Fuel with gasoline from 87 to 90[ (R+M)/2 method] (91
to 95RON), driving in high temperature or low humidity conditions could cause engine
knocking.
Fuel with a rating lower than 87[ (R+M)/2 method] (lower than 91RON) could cause the
emission control system to lose effectiveness. It could also cause engine knocking and
serious engine damage.

The car needs premium, anything that is not of good quality causes the car to knock/ping, it also starts dying at idle. In a worst case scenario you'll see symptoms like those of compression failure (i.e rattling/shaking dying and hard warm start, etc).

Research
Well Tommy, for what it's worth, you just saved me a boat load of time. I was mildly thinking about changing to a K&M air filter, but hadn't become serious enough about it to actually research it.
For what it's worth this car is pretty well built as it comes off the floor. I've done quite a bit of research on Upgrades for my RX8 and most of the time the conclusion I came to was it would be better to just save the money. That's pretty odd for me and if you knew me you'd know that. I typically do modifications to the cars I drive.
A good example of one that never made off the drawing board was some Sub woofers. I like the feeling solid bass can give you. Moreover, I LOVE to harass my neighbors. The neighbor across the street is the wife of a retired LEO and my next door neighbor is a councilman. Nothing puts a smile on my face more than the looks I get on a hot sunny day as I put on "Me So Horney" and drive into my driveway with the neighbors looking.
That said, when I looked into the costs involved with upgrading the Bose system I concluded that the existing was good enough. I wouldn't just throw in a prebuilt box or just Jerry Rig something. I would want as much space as possible since our trunks are already REALLY small and I have the spare tire. I'd need to go with a custom box. There are a couple out there for our car, but if you add in the cost of the Amp and Sub and cost of the box you are well over $1200.
As for the Shilacking you took. Well, try to keep a little perspective. The folks that responded harshly could very well have just remained silent. In which case, you might have been driving down the road for the next year wondering why your car's performance is still now what you expected it to be.
Then again, maybe I'm just getting old. I'm used to AA meetings where folks will tell new guys to shut up and sit down if they start talking. Not so much these days, but when I started 15 years ago it was far more hard core.

Rotary Wanker
Mazda hates detonation and pinging with this engine. To protect themselves from engine warranty claims, Mazda prods the user into using premium - less chance of detonation and pinging.

well i'm guessing if i spent around 200,000 dollars on an airplane and had a pilot's liscense, I would know which fuel is okay to put in it. this is a car i paid 13k for. i asked for advice, because I wasn't sure. you act like people on here should already know the answer to the question they are asking. and btw most of the time at the airport someone else is pumping the gas into the plane for you.

and all im saying (and have said) is I DID do a search, just did not know the "correct" way to use the search. So your point is moot. I did at least think and attempt to search, which is more than you would get from most new members.

Yes, 91 is recommended, but if you aren't pinging, the lowest octane you can use is the best. Octane only prevents detonation, so if you don't have any, then use the lowest you can. I've been putting regular in for a couple tanks just to see how it is. Seems fine to me for now.
Once it gets to be summer, I'll probably run mid or premium, just to be safe.
