You consider a Miata? You can pick up an NA or NB for really cheap. It's got many of the same roots as the RX-8, handling, fun factor, etc... Learn the fun stuff in a slower car that won't kill your finances.

Though you haven't mentioned a price range that you are looking in.

You sound like a very responsible young adult. Good choice bud! ..and good luck on your future RX8 endeavors.

...I wouldn't have had the strength to do so when I was your age.

Thanks! I just feel it's better for me, my safety, and my parents as well.

"Newer" when talking about Miata's is all relative

I'm close to purchasing a brand new 2012 Miata for $30k.

Here is a cars.com search result of cars between $7,000 and $12,000, within 150 miles of Louisville, that should give you elements of the fun factor you are looking for. It should let you modify the search results to play with it a bit more.

A few things jump out quickly, including the Nissan 300s and the pair of WRXs, if you ignore how 1/3rd of the results are Miatas

I really like Miatas, but they look a tiny bit girly to me. I don't know why. I've seen plenty of guys that drive them.

I'm liking the WRX. I just talked to my dad about getting an 08 Mazda 6 iS.

Probably this: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1

If you plan to do any modding, Miata's are cheaply modded, and you can easily change the appearance.

For example:

Not exactly girly any more

6s are good cars. Can't really go wrong with them from a kid perspective.

Got nothing negative to say against them. The one in the pic appears to be the top GT trim, pretty good condition.

...

EXTREMELY RUDE.

You didn't provide enough information to answer appropriately, and posting in someone else's thread on a completely different topic reflects very poorly on your manners.

Ill probably just go with the newer 6s. V6 in Particular. I guess it's time to leave RX8 club and go to Mazda 6 club.

I am only 18 years old and owned my RX-8 for over 6 months now. I just want to tell you that when I was 16 I did indeed get involved in a parking lot fender bender that was my fault. Luckily my mom had put me in a 2000 civic first and not a sports car. It would be a wise choice to at least wait a year or two when you become a better and more cautious driver. Get your crazy teenager driving out of the way as well. I thought owning a sports car would make you wanna speed all the time, however, I drive much more civilized in my 8 than I did in my civic.

Woahhhhh!!! I drove a Miata, lol.

It's always better to have girls compliment you on your car because they think it's cute and would like to drive it VS a bunch of dudes complimenting you.

Honestly, the cons are going to be the petrol, and the insurance, i know most people don't care too much about that, but in a practical sense, after a year or so, it might start becoming a serious issue.

The pros, everything, they're an amazing car, you just have to pay a little extra for it.

I've never encountered a girl who hated on my Miata. Besides maybe the random comment being "Your car scraps everywhere." since it was slammed which isn't hating, just a fact. A lot of my female classmates would always suggest I take my car when we'd get lunch. Now in the eight I take even more girls with me.

Another reason why I want the 8 so bad. Is there any way that I could get the RX8 set in my dads name, or basically, him listed as the primary driver and me as the secondary?

I thought about something like that.
