possible New rx8 owner

Whats going on guys? Well i test drove about 3 rx8 6spd so far and I really like the car. it handles great and the power isnt to bad. I'm very new to rotoray engines and I heard good things and bad things....One of the bad things I had heard was that the apex seals need to be replaced every 60k miles and I also heard that they must be rebuilt.. and the reason i ask is because alot of the rx8 ive seen for sale is under 60k. just wanted to hear it from the rx8 owners to see whats really going on. thanks in advanced

Hmm... That's the first time I've heard that one. The apex seals don't need to be replaced at 60K. There are several people on here that have over 120k and still haven't rebuilt their engine. As long as you treat the engine right (maintenance, and a regular thrashing) it should last you a long time.

Most of the used 8's are just coming off warranty so they are probably about 40k-60k. They just made changes on the warranty and the engine core is now covered for 8yrs or 100k. Which if I'm not mistaken should cover the apex seals if anything should go wrong.

Try not to listen to people when they talk about the engine. It's something people don't understand and so they just say something completely false. There are Rotary engines from the 80's with their original motor well into 200k miles. A few 8 owners have passed the 100k miles mark...one is closer to 200k.

Search the forum, read up on the engine, and you'll be very happily surprised.

yup, mazda sent a car into production that needs apex seals every 60K miles.

Buy a crossfire.
