Question Possible Cold Engine Exhaust leak

My RX8 is my first experiance with a Rotory engine so getting used to the different sounds it make is hard. When starting the engine from a cold soak it sounds like a cold engine exhaust leak.

It does go away after engine warms up. Anybody else have this sound, is it the nature of the beast to make this sound when cold or is it as I suspect?

Feed back will be greatly appreciated.

PS Next trip to dealer I will ask them to check this out but it will require a overnite stay for the RX and I am not sure I want it to spend the night at some one eles house!!!!!

More than likely the sound you are hearing is the vehicle's air-pump. The air pump runs for a short time on engine start up, it injects fresh air into the exhaust to speed up haeting the Cat. This is a perfectly normal feature, the air pump is an electric unit made by Mercedes, it is the black unit beside the right suspension strut when you look in the engine bay with a two pin connector and a Mercedes Star on the connector. So don't worry too much and enjoy your car
