Popping sound from exhaust at idle

I was standing at the rear of my car taking a leak today and I noticed as it idled, there was random popping like little mini backfires. They were very quiet.

Has anyone noticed this before? The car runs great, has 28,000 km.

Thanks.

if i may take this opportunity to gain knowledge :
-what about rotary engines makes it normal to hear backfiring?

-what causes backfiring in piston engines and is it a sign that something is not operating properly?

thanks

It's a little known fact that the rotary exhaust was pioneered by the Orville Redenbacher engineering group. they felt that the best way to keep emissions low was a thick layer of popcorn between the cat and the tail pipes. It's just doing it's job. No worries.

Am I the only one that finds it funny that a guy was taking a leak at the rear of his car and noticed this. That is hilarious

I like the popping sound. I notice it even more since I put my Mazdaspeed Intake on.

you shouldn't pee on your car. It pops when it's angry
