I'm 29 with a two year old son. By the time I get my RX-8, I'll be 30 with a 3 year old son and an additional <1 offspring.

Hence my username combining two parts of my life I hold dear, whitewater kayaking and being a father.

I voted "Married, no kids" since by the time I buy my 8, I will be married (I'm engaged now; the wedding is July 18th, 2003). And while there are no kids in my immediate future, there will be kids someday. My fiancee will let me buy whatever I want (as long as we can afford it, of course) provided a child seat can fit in back.

From a demographic/economic standpoint you twenty-somethings have never truly been able to help a carmaker support a sports car. Your minds are willing, but your wallets weak!

I am talking about the demographic group as a whole, not individuals....so chill.

Not all 20 somethings will have weak wallets. I for one will try to pay off the car as soon as I get it. If I do have to finance it won't be anything I can't pay off in a month or two.

I am sure though that a lot of the 20 somethings will be financing the whole car or leasing it.

This car for me is reward for working my *** off all through school to make sure I incurred no debt. I am sure that a lot of the 20 soemthings are right out of school and have a lot of debt. Unless of course their mommies and daddies payed for everything.

Ok, initially I took offense as seen above but I have calmed down now :D . However, maturely and calmly I must say that I disagree. There is a wealth of newly graduated college kids who have been stuck with cars since they were 16. Now they have money and want a new toy . I couldn't even put a number on the friends I have cruising the lots for 350z's, s2000's, wrx's and soon, the RX-8. Now you say that they have little impact on the car industry. Again I disagree, I don't know firsthand, but my Dad told me of the old musclecar days and the horsepower and cubic inch wars. I kinda doubt the camaro, mustang, etc. etc. were marketed towards 40 something year olds. Even now- The Civic Si, SVT Focus and a host of other cars are making it here because of the trememdous youth market out there. It is they who are bringing the cars over here and it is they who are buying them. My Dad never told me about the WRX, I found out about that and the Evo from GT3 a game on a console few 40 year olds play passionately (big assumption, oh well). I am just saying don't insult the youth demographic, it is doing more for the car industry that you can imagine. Oh and Screw Flanders.

Main reason could be because parents buy their kids cars, and the cars wind up in the adults name.. skewing statistical analyses

I didn't say that youth market had no impact on the car industry...I agree with you wholeheartedly on that one. I was referring to sports cars - not muscle cars, pony cars, sports sedans, or economy cars modified with slightly larger alloys, a few more horsepower and some extra letters tacked on to the end of the name.

Remember, demographics is simply the statistical analysis of populations in the aggregate. And, in the aggregate, folks in their 20's have significantly less disposable income than those in their 40's. Especially for things like sports cars.

of course there are always exceptions to the rule...and I expect that on this board we have a relatively intelligent, computer litterate group motivated by a fascination (OK Hercules et al, obsession?) with the RX-8. So I bet, and I hope, that a lot of you folks in your teens and 20's do get your RX-8!

Heck, my Dad bought a brand new Austin Healy when he was 21!

Off topic, but you might want to investigate anything Alan Moore (He's a Brit but he makes America's Best Comics! :D ) writes.

This isn't comics for kids! I highly recomend Promethea (the story is all about the power of myths and our imagination) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen ... there's more, but it time to get back to our regular sponsered RX-8 forum

An AUTOGRAPHED first edition somewhere in my library (if the wife didn't throw it out) - met Gibbons and Moore at a Forbidden Planet book-signing in London a long, long time ago. How does Promethea compare?

It's very different, more metaphysical and since it's not over ... can't say if it better or not But I will highly recommend "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" (his look at a retro - pulp heroics) and his "Top 10" (Hillstreet Blues meet Super Heros) series ... all excellent!

25, married, planning on being a father by this time next year...

I would love this car, but between the mortgage, student loans, starting to save retirement, and restoring my wife's black hard-top '66 Mustang, I do not have the money.

I'm trying to get her to drop a 350 ci+ engine in to replace the 'teensy' 289 ci V-8. I figure, since it doesn't handle that great anyway we might as well milk the straight line acceleration for all it's worth.
