Please Help! Looking 4 Cheap Car Shipping

HI

I'm looking to ship my RX-8 from Charlottesville, VA to Dallas, TX.

Does anyone know of any shipping companies that does is for less than the average of $800 with all fees included?

Thanks,

A new 8 awaits

There are bonded agencies that will have someone drive your car to it's destination.

I would be careful with using a fly by night transporter. I bought my 8 on eBay and had the cheapest company deliver it from Houston to Northern Arizona. They showed up at 11 PM, which thrilled my neighbors...yes, they called the cops. Then, the next morning, I noticed that the roof of the car was damaged. It isn't much, a small dent across several places just behind the sunroof. It was an enclosed transporter and the car wasn't strapped down properly. The estimates were all in the $1100 range. The shipper said they'd pay me directly instead of going through their insurance. They sent $200 and would send more as they could. That was two years ago and they haven't sent any more.

shipping cars is always a gamble. just like shipping with ups, they throw ur box around cuz they don't give a ****.

if u want the cheapest, go on uship.com and do the bid thing, u tell them where u from and wantstoship to where, companies will look and leave u offers, i tried it a while ago to try to get a quote from Cali to nyc. original bid was around the same as just ship it directly. but after2-3 days the same company just getting cheaper and cheaper, at the end it was about 500 bux cheaper than the lowest online quote i got.

1200 miles @ 20 miles per gallon @$4.00 per gallon is only $240.00.

Drive the 8 and enjoy the drive!

i don't think anybody can drive 1200 miles without rest, food, hotel. all cost money.

well, depends on how extreme u are, its not too hard to drive 600 miles a day, i tried it. wasn't so bad.

I've done it 5 times (well, I ate, obviously, but roadside snacks and water don't really kick the cost up that much) - Phoenix to Kansas City and back. It's a great time, OP, just go get your car and drive it home!

He said it's a new car, he probably bought it out of state and is trying to get it shipped. Otherwise, he has to fly out to get it which costs more money.

I've had too many guitars and amps show up at my door with giant holes in the boxes to ever consider shipping a brand new car

Within OP's budget he could fly one way from Dallas to Norfolk ($477 on Southwest for this coming Saturday) and drive back, easy peasy.

Just my $.02!

I went through "Get It Done Transportation"

Cost me $500 to ship from Austin Texas up to Des Moines Iowa. And I ended up getting it 2 days before they originally thought. It only took them 3 days from payment to receiving my car. Although I'm sure it doesn't work out like that everytime, but they are small and family owned so they have excellent customer service.

When I called in just to ask a question the owner actually answered the phone which was weird but goes to show that they care about their customers and survive off of good reviews and recommendations.

They also give you the contact info for the driver that is delivering your car so the driver calls you directly and pretty much gives you updates so you can make plans ahead of time to take off work or whatever to pick it up.

Shipping a vehicle is always going to be a risk, so that's your call. But I was more then happy with these guys. It was my first time and I was really worried about it but they laid it all out nice and simple.

I would love to drive it back; however, it is just a roller right now with no motor or tranny.

I've got my original salvaged RX-8 waiting to be transplanted.

Post on the project will be up as soon as I finish summer school and start working on her.

It's like driving the vicinity of 20 hours or so...if you could drive it nonstop, only stopping for gas and food (or bring your own food), it would be much cheaper, I guess.

It's not wise to drive that long. I've done 16 hrs a several of times (in the RX8) and you end up in poor shape. I almost ran into the tail of a Grayhound bus the last trip after getting foggy behind the wheel.
Truck drivers are only allowed 10 hrs by law.

I just arranged to ship a Porsche out to Palo Alto, CA from San Antonio for my boss and it ended up costing around $900.00. I actually wanted to drive it out myself for a fun expenses paid road trip in a Porsche but when I calculated it, it just didn't make sense with the price of gas, food, night in a motel, and the airfare back.

Also, the car left on Monday and arrived on Thursday with no issues.

Sounds like quite a job. GLOTRB! And part out everything you have left over, there's plenty of vulchers here waiting to pick a salvaged 8 clean.

Make sure the shipping company knows this. they charge more for non running cars. Most drivers move cars 4-6 times during transit. They pick up and deliver as they go. If yours is non running it has to go up front the whole drive, and needs winched on also.

drove 12 hours straight to canada, on the ride home, got a speeding ticket and 5 minutes after the speeding ticket I fell asleep at the wheel and totalled my car hitting a tree off the road. My poor grand am. That cop was pissed. 1st i make her write me a ticket, then i made her stop for the accident too.

I built a computer for my brother and shipped it. When he got it, the computer wouldn't start so I walked him through opening the case. The processor was knocked out of the socket...and all of the pins were bent. I can't imagine the G-forces required to get the processor out and bend hundreds of little pins while inside a computer case. A bomb drop from 30k might do it.
