The owning of a winter rat is a tried and true technic of car ownership in the truly snowy parts of the world. When I lived in Syracuse, I watched rust stream down from the door handles of a friend's brand new SAAB after six whole months of ownership. My VW had bolts rust into rounded off pins after four years. Some places it makes sense. Personally, I never wanted to make the choice to have two cars, but that is probably why I don't live in Syracuse any more ... well, that and I got my degree.
