haha the thread title is blasphemous..

but in all seriousness, i've had passing thoughts of doing a mivec turbo swap from an evo IX. i wonder how that would work out.. haha

(not having ready any of the responses)

If this car would have came with 4 cylinders I would have never bought it. Even if it had a turbo.

I'm just saying theres not a shit ton of stuff you can do to it performance wise....like cai, exhaust, midpipe, headers, underdrive pulley, clutch, cobb accessport, port and polish, tune, then turbocharging...theres probably some little stuff i forgot but im just saying theres really not alot

Exactly, I bought the eight because of the rotary and the look. It's a win win. It it had pistons, it would lose half of its draw and just be another regular sports car. I love the 8 because it is different and because the difference is advanced technology.

Thats because it was designed so well versus the integra, civic, etc. whom which give you 14 hp just with an intake. Mazda took the time to figure out the best way to engineer the car which is also why our cars retain so high a value versus such fore spoken cars.

A piston 8 would be like your dream girl having a cock. It just ain't right. :icon_no2:

You know, now that you mention this, ever since I bought my car I have always thought my back doors were a little depressed, but this really opens my eyes to how serious the situation is...

rx8 with pistons = :puke:

BlakOuT 09-23-2009 08:35 AM

If the Rx8 did have a 4 cylinder turbo, I don't think it would be standard model. It would probably be a Mazdaspeed version.
You should have asked, "What if the Rx8 came standard with a turbo on the 6 ports except with a 5 speed manual and the high power version was an NA 3 rotor Renesis with a 6 speed manual?"

Well if it came turbo with 6 ports with a 5 speed manual it would have the same engine (and tranny) as the 3rd gen rx7 which would be the shit!!!

I dont think adding a turbo to a Renesis engine transforms it into a RE block... IIRC the RE engines had the ports in different locations and teh rotors were shaped differently.

boizart1 09-24-2009 11:46 PM

hm it would kill a long tradition. Mazda makes the only rotary production car in the world...You just expect them to stop? In the future I dont want a rotary as my daily driver...once I decide I want to get rid of my 8 I would like a daily beater and a 93' rx7 for the weekends. Definitely would always like to have a rotary in my garage...it secured its place in my heart =)

RyansRx8 09-24-2009 11:56 PM

^^ agree with a daily and beast of an rx7 forsure!

kartweb 09-25-2009 12:32 AM

I asked the same question back when I had a CX7. The CX7 is a detuned Mazdaspeed 6 where the turbo spooled up faster just not as much peak power as the 6. It did a fine job moving the 2 ton SUV about. A bit thirsty for a turbo 4.

They 2.3 can make a reliable 325 HP without doing a lot to it. Its not much heavier then the rotary. If I had to install a piston engine I supposes that the way I would go but it does seem to spoil the package.

RyansRx8 09-25-2009 12:35 AM

I love the speeds! ms3, ms6, and the msp...believe they have much potential

^^agree, if they put a piston engine in the 8 it would be so heavy and it would loose that flexibility it has to take corners and so on. only plus is +HP/Torque... I think they should put 20b's in the 8 standard :fingersx::fingersx::fingersx:

boizart1 09-25-2009 02:27 AM

20b's standard lol. this would be a dumb idea...but a 26b is a whole 'nother story.

No, it wouldn't be the same engine or tranny. The 13b rew was only a 4 port with a couple of turbos. My suggestion was a 6 port 13b msp (Renesis) with one turbo as standard and a Renesis inspired NA 20b (which would be called the 20b msp) as the hi-power model. My suggestion would be like a new episode and yours would be a repeat and not everyone likes repeats.
