picking up my rx8 saturday :)

so i'm a little new to the rotary world, was told by the stealership mechanics not to purchase an rx8 with over 30k on it cuz after that they are garbage but from what i've learned with my motorcycle mechanics during recalls and such i pretty much let it go in one ear and out the other since i have a few friends who absolutely love this car. Its galaxy gray and pretty much a base model, cloth seats, no sunroof or spoiler, 6 disc changer and 6 speed tranny. picked it up for 9200 with 50k on it and its a one owner garage kept vehicle. I think i did pretty good

Anyhow so since I'm new i was wondering can anyone suggest what oil i should use in it, what oil filter you'd run, and anything else thats important. i know of the flooding problem and just purchased an audiolink hook up for my iphone to solve the problem of not owning any cds whatsoever.

i test drove a car before this one same color just with a sunroof and 62k miles, had water in the oil the thing was absolutely beat and that dealership wanted the same price as the one i'm buying the nice one off of. some people need to learn how to sell a damn car.

Congrats and enjoy the new car. As far as oil, search a lil. It's been debated over and over again.

Congrats on the car. Yeah that definitely sounds like a good find..... Read this thread ---> https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

That will give you a whole lot of good info, and answer a lot of questions you might have (including helping you figure out what oil you want to use).

Welcome!

What oil should you use? Depends on who you ask!

Welcome to the addiction. I think 5w20 is to thin and use 5w30, whatever brand oil filter you like will be fine. Also you should do a search on premix

You can always send your oil to the lab and have it tested for viscosity.

I made this mistake as well. So I bought an iPod adapter and haven't used a CD in my 8 since.

Here in texas the cd changers are dangerous. It gets hot enough to melt cds in the player lol, try cleaning up that mess :P

+1 This happens to my Grand Cherokee's cd player all the time. Condensation on discs is better than melted discs though.
