Passenger air bag on/off?

So in some threads people say the 2006 Rx-8's have a passenger side sensor for the airbag.

Could someone elaborate on this and how it works? It doesn't seem like a simple on/off switch you control, but it adjusts based on weight?

yeah weight sensitive, overseas models have a on off switch, it's what the hole beside the glovebox is for.

The seat senses if there is weight on it and if it is less than 69 pounds it deactivates the airbag. Otherwise, you can't just turn it off.

The "hole" beside the glovebox in mine (an 06) is a light that says "passenger airbag off" when you turn the car on or if after the car is on you put something on it that weighs less than the above mentioned weight. It stays lit for several seconds.

It deactivates under 69 pounds. So 70 pounds and up you're covered although it recommends not sitting there if you are somewhere around 100 pounds or less, I beleive. It was high 90s or something.

Hi,
Yesterday I got my first RX-8 but it has a small fault. My passenger airbag is remaining off even when I a passenger sits down on it. Also I noticed that when a the car is moving and the Passenger seat belt is removed there is no warning that the seat belt is removed. Can someone kindly help me on how to trouble shoot the issue. I took a look under the seat and the connections all seem tightly fitted.
