Pager Alarm... to install or not to install?

About a year ago... I ordered an alarm for my Jeep that I never installed because I sold the jeep soon there after.

Its a remote start alarm with pager (pages you telling you your alarm is off and tells you what triggered it).

Now its been sitting in my closet for about a year still in the box. I live in a small town in Texas (about 160,000 pop.) but I am moving to Orange County California (LA Area) in about a month so I got to thinking whether or not installing this alarm would be a good idea. I did some research on the RX8 factory alarm, but is it really enough protection?

If I install it, I wont install the remote start feature... just the alarm. I don’t want to mess with having to bypass the clutch and having the dealership giving me **** for it. I used to work at Circuit City and Best Buy a while back so I know some trained techs that can install it for me at a cheap price.... but would it be worth the time, money and loosing the factory alarm?

What would you all do?

I'm a bartender ... if it goes off while at work, I'll just get the bouncers to help :p

Anything that will make the car harder to steal (or at least more of a hassle) is a good Idea.
If they REALLY want your car no mater how much protection you have, they'll steal it. But most of the time they're just looking for AN EASY car, so as long as yours is a pain in the rear to take they'll chose another car.
I say go for it.
If not, what make/model alarm is it and how much do you want for it?

Just my $0.02

Its not so much that I am worried about my car being stolen. The thought does sit in the back of my head of course, but I know that any theif really wanting to steal something will do it, alarm or not. That is what I have insurance for. Its more of a my car being broken into for things inside. I dont usually keep much inside my car but my ipod (not in sight of course) or my laptop... all which my apt rental insurance covers. I guess its more of a question of how good the factory alarm is, and if it would be even worth installing the piece.

If I do decide to sell it, I would ask for anything more than $80-100 shipped.

I'd think a pager alarm and a baseball bat would give you much more satisfaction and get you back on the road faster than if you let them steal it and go through insurance.
