It's strange, I've gotten a wave or thumbs up from just about every turbo DSM I've come across. In addition I get the same thing from other Evos, STIs, and a lot of WRXs.

In Cincinnati, none of the RX-8 owners wave back, despite my attempts. If you see a black w/ a MS wing, how about giving me a wave back?

When I'm in the Miata, seems like I can always get a wave from fellow roadsters.

I passed a black 8 going over Sydney Harbour Bridge last night. Hot blonde driving it too .

Couldn't resist giving the horn a couple of quick toots when I drew level. She just about pooped her pants and did the eyes straight ahead thing.

Car looked totally stock. I gave her an idea what a decent catback sounds like and left her behind.

Of course she did the eyes straight ahead thing! She was embarrassed about pooping her pants!

I don't mean to offend, but this wave thing is a bit goofy isn't it?

Two previous cars, a Miata and a Jeep YJ, were awful for that, happened ALL the time, got real annoying. Only happened a couple of times in my 8 from other 8 owners, so things are much better. I always wave back...but I always feel goofy doing it...like why? Think I do it 'cause the wife says I should try to be friendlier...though I've never been!

Also, as a motorcyclist, other bikers do it all the time and I wish they wouldn't, but I always wave back. Will probably ride off the road one day politely waving at someone! When will it end???

It's just a friendly gesture of recognition. Doesn't hurt anything. Unless of course your waving the middle finger at them. We should all try to be more friendly IMO.

There's so much bad attitude on the roads I reckon anything that indicates some recognition and mutual respect is worth it.

I wave at other 8's. I signal thanks for being let in. I even signal recognition when someone else waves after I let them in.

If people wanna play it cool and imagine they're in their own private episode of 'The Fast and the Furious', good luck to them. However, it only takes a second and it feels kinda nice to imagine you're in a world-wide club of 8 enthusiasts.

i wave. it just seems like every 8 i see isn't paying attention. so far i've only gotten 1 wave from a woman in a silver 8. i've tried to wave at a few other owners - even chased some down, but still no wave.

i've got a blue gt and if i see you i'll give a wave.

Not to worry Rob, we probably don't want to fraternize with him anyway if he chooses to deliberately ignore us. Probably thinks that we have no business owing 8's since he has one... .

Good thing with the bra, especially out on 64.
I had one on my other Mazda (MX6) for a long time with no paint damage as long as I kept wax on it and dried the bra before putting it back on.

The angle was all wrong to wave and I was sure they never saw us, but they were headed the same direction we were so we pulled out behind them. Then they turned off onto a side street and pulled into their garage. (Funny that after thinking I was almost the only RX-8 in the valley there is one that lives right behind my business park)

Anyway, I figured chasing them all the way home (even unintentionally) looks too weird so we pulled through the housing tract and went on our way. We'll give them a wave some other day.
Stalker? Moi?
I probably would have followed the poor chap to his garage door, flip him a card and zoom off.
C'mon, even Casper was friendly...

I steadfastly wave to other motorcyclists (when I'm on my motorcycle), religiously. When I was a newbie rider and I got my first wave, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. It's a brotherhood of riders, an unspoken connection that *we* are different from all the cagers. So I wave to anyone on any kind of motorcycle.

Since I feel the same way about the 8, that we 8 owners are an esoteric little group apart, I like to likewise wave. It's definitely harder car-to-car instead of bike-to-bike. Takes me longer to identify that a car is in fact an 8, which gives less time to react, etc.

WTF... I want to wave, I really want to wave! I used to see the same 5 or 6 RX-8's on my stretch from north Austin, TX to south San Marcos, TX for work and back every day but since I have owned my car I have not seen a single one. Instead I have been had to relegate myself to just giving other Mazda owners and even the Z/G35 owners "the nod." By the way I think the Corvette owners out there are a little snobbish.

Where are all of my fellow 8's in Austin gone?!

Exactly, I even put my window down and stetch my arm to the sky waving at half of the state without the other driver noticing...they're always too busy admiring their interior.

True enough!!

But they are also for cars that are exposed to rocks kicked up on the Interstate.

Well, as long as you like how it looks, I guess... I've spend my whole life trying to get things out of bras...it's just habbitual.

Roads here are horrible.
Debris (not only rocks) is everywhere.
Bras are certainly justified 3 seasons out of the year, believe me.
I have some pretty ugly gashes and pits to touch up this spring myself.

A friendly wave never hurt anyone. It shows mutual respect for others who have similar good taste!

Motorcyclists give the wave, and Miata owners will flash their lights with their flip up lights.

Some think its un-cool or pretend to be too busy to acknowledge others. Oh well, I guess its somewhat analogous to everyday life. I say spread the love...

I own a 1972 MGB and when I see another MG or any classic British sports car I wave or are waved at first and the compliment is always returned. I didn't give it any thought to do the same in the RX-8 as I wasn't sure there was such a large enthusiast base.

On the boat (26' express cruiser) the waving thing there is very hit and miss, when I first got it I received a few waves from other boaters and then thought that was the norm. Happy to continue the tradition I would wave at passing boaters and often receive a blank look in return....I have since stopped and only wave if waved at first. I'm pretty sure that is the way it will be in the RX-8.
