Outer Mirror Courtesy Lamps

I have been doing some research into the outside mirror lights that were shown on some of the preproduction 8's. It seems that the Austrailian versions of the car have these "outer mirror courtesy lamps" installed. I have attached the e-mail from Mazda about my request for a part number. They are still trying to figure out if they will work on a US or Canadian version of the 8 or if there is some sort of country specific programming in some onboard computer. As soon as I get an answer I will be sure to post any info I get.
I would also like to thank Kevin Punter an 8 owner in Oz who is asking his dealer about this feature. Hopefully between these two sources we might be able to order these parts, if you are so inclined, and install them on our cars (and more importantly have them work).
If you want more info on these lights, go the mazda.com.au. The lights are installed under the outside rearview mirrors. Here in the US we have the stylish black plastic plugs.

Dear Mr Saylor

> The lamp is part of the mirror, part # is FE33-69-120C 67 for right hand
> and FE27-69-180C 67 for the left.. '67' is for colour sunlight silver.
> the 2 last digits depends on colour of vehicle.
>
As for the wiring, I have forward your request to our technical dept. Our
parts dept suggest that it may be wired into the vehicle and controlled by
some sort of control unit, may be the central locking unit?.

Hope to have more information soon for you.

Regards

note that he said it is part of the mirror and gave you the mirror part number. the mazda sources i have asked told me that there is a different wiring harness in the NA model than in the models that have the lights. let me know if you come upon anything different, i am very interested in having those lights.

I have the lamps,
they sit under the wing mirrors (you cant see them unless you look from underneath) and just illumiate a small area around the door of the car.

I dunno why they are there- doesn;t seem to do much. It may be of use when you drop your keys i guess

I haven't been able to get a really good Mazda picture of the outside courtesy lamps. What country are you posting from?Could you please post some pictures of lights and their effect at night?
I am hoping that Mazda Australia techies wil be able to find out if it is a country/region specific wiring harness or program for these lights. Mazda US doesn't answer my calls or e-mails on this subject. I guess because they are not really sure what we are talkinh about. I would hate to order the mirrors from Oz and find out that I can't make them work in my 8

Even if the harness is different I can't see why they can't be hooked up to the inside lights, it would be more work but if the part fits I can't see it not working, it's just electricity

You could hook them up to the signals if you want or the dome.

I got it either here or on the Japanese site some time ago. There was a shot of the interior red lights on the other side. I cropped that out to post it here. Looks like some kind of brochure picture.

There should already be electric in the mirrors at least in the models with the heated mirrors.

Yeah, but it's gotta be controlled, like with the door-open circuitry.

I'd buy. Wonder if you could also change the lamb bulb to reflect a personal choice...(ie: red bulb for velocity red exterior, blue for winning blue, etc)...Dunno know not, as long as it's the same wattage?

I'm in

...man, if someone figures this out, I'm interested.

Say Mikeb: did you replace all the bulbs with led's. If so could you review what you used and where I can easily get them or where the thread is that talks about it.

I bet it looks cool.

I read someone had replaced the lights with led's...I don't know it it was you or not.

Well, just thought I'd ask.

Contact Canzoomer if you're interested. He's built a prototype but has only had 2 people inquire about it so it's unlikely he's going to build it. If enough of us ask about it, we might be able to get it from him and he'll confirm how to hook it up so it works properly. I'm interested too. Please contact Canzoomer and express your interest.
