Sadly the biggest problem with Mazda dealers is that they are totally clueless, by in large with only a few exceptions.
My dealer admittedly realizes that I have more information than him, know more than him, and even get more data than him on my car than he does! That's never a good sign. However being that this is the case, I should get a good deal on my lease because he has not done a thing for me in any regard to earn his keep, so to speak.
This is why you need to get a hold of the internet manager... they are generally the most savvy with technology and will be able to locate a car for you that matches your needs, or see what they are getting.
Just keep calling dealer after dealer, or just go visit them! It shouldn't be too hard to get you helped out.

Some dealers have the initiative and know how to change many of the options including color, right up to the build date. They can also take a later delivery allocation vehicle, change the options, and get it moved up in the build process, once its presold. Find a proactive dealer, and they can make it happen. My dealer Sandy Sansing in Pensacola FL did this. Good Luck.

my dealer said he could change options on a car that has already been assigned to come to his dealership, as long as it has not gone into production. I think the two things that cannot be changed are color and transmission...all the rest can be...assuming that no one has put down a deposit on the car...

Or use Mazda's website as illustrated in rx-nut's post about how to find any given dealer's inventory-to-be - and find what you want and hope it's not spoken for already...

For what it's worth
i noticed you're in Texas. If you want, you might want to check with Craig Martin, Sales manager at Freeman's in Irving, TX. I think they have two uncommitted cars, one black and one silver. You could always give him a call at 972-438-2121. They never charge over list.
Tell him boowana form the RX-8 forum sent you.:p
