only if i knew..

Only if I knew I was buying a car where half of the buyers are ex mx5 owners that are probably still hairdressers...

Stop your bitching about it and support the car you have purchased.

Also, keep your poofy jokes/flames to yourself, the forum is meant to be informative.. Can hardly get a straight answer without some idiot making some sort of joke about your post.

Lol that was such a random post...

but to make it constructive, let me ask... did you people buy the RX-8 for its style, or its performance?

Kas- so basically you bought it out of love of the Rotary engine? Are they that nice? Do they just "feel" different? I've never driven one before..

I noticed that the RX-8 had two rotors (The triangles that spin in that oval for anyone not sure what I mean).... are there any other Rotaries that have more rotors than that? How many did RX-7's have?

Yeap, there is 2 rotors spinning in oval chambers.

There is more han 2 rotors, there is a 20B (3rotor) and 26B(4rotor). I wont explain too much as its getting off my initial topic.

Owned 2 rx7's, rebuit/worked 1 with a mate. To me they feel different, power delivery and response it all different. They dont struggle like a piston when you give the engine a big workout. i love em

I'm left handed, work in the it industry and own an RX8... a very frightening combination

Bet you all felt a lot safer thinking that you were only associating with hairdressers!!! :D

... did I mention a like star trek?

Oh and I got the RX8 because I fit in the back seat - go figure.

The path the rotor spins in is called an epitrochoid (more elliptical than oval). The 4 rotor has never seen mass production, it has only been used in race cars (maybe IMSA--and I think the one that won LeMan was a 4 rotor). Maybe there has been a 4 rotor prototype, I don't know.
Any way, I ain't even complaining about this vehicle. I love it, my wife loves it. Just so nice and sporty. I am blessed to have what I consider to be the perfect stable of cars, a sporty AWD wagon for business, an outrageously fast and great handling sports car, and the coolest sport coupe/sports car/ 4 seat/ 4 door thing on the road. Not to mention 2 rotaries, which is the coolest (I didn't say best--can't make that claim--haven't driven everything out there) engine ever produced in my humble opinion.

Gee....guess I don't fit the profile....does this mean I have to give the car back? Are you going to razz me for not being a hairdresser?

...and yes, I've owned 2 Miatas....still have one of them.

I agree re the wining by some on this forum, but bear in mind there are a number of trolls and more than a few kiddies polluting this forum. I have a Miata and still have it. It's my autox car at the moment and it beats many higher hp cars...it's all about the weight and tires. And I don't think you'll find a large number of hairdressers racing Spec Miatas...not that there is anything wrong with that!

I got an 8 because it fits my needs (a sports car to travel in...with luggage that my wife doesn't bitch about...doesn't like to go over 10-15 miles in the Miata, but I love it too and it's much more preferable than her SUV!).

The 8 isn't perfect, but it's a great value for the money, it looks good enough to draw lots of attention, goes fast enough to get a drawer full of tickets and has lots of neat little tricks in addition to the rotor motor (another reason for me). Those who wine about the mileage, should have purchased a Prius since they obviously can't afford to drive a sports car.

I'm a straight guy who's owned three Miatas in a row over 12 years and who's spent a lot of time at Miata track days and local Miata club meetings and fun runs, and my impression of the average Miata owner is a straight middle-aged man, maybe 45 - 55 years old, who loved the Triumphs and MGs of his childhood.

The statistics bear this figure out to some extent, too--it's not nearly the gay or chick car that people imagine. And of all my many Miata friends, only one is gay. In fact, to this day I do not understand the origin of that stereotype but, whatever, it's no good confusing anyone who's made up his mind by presenting him with facts.

Anyway, I say that the RX-8 is a great car in the RX-7 and Miata tradition, and there absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Besides the fact that the miata isn't a gay hairdressers car (I agree with Zonker04 - there's no basis for that stereotype that I've ever seen), that association is more typically made in North America with VW Cabrios and in the UK with BMW Z3s.

I suspect the stereotype with the Miata was created by insecure Mustang GT owners who had to come up with a way to make fun of Miata drivers after they had their doors blown off at an autocross or on a twisty road by a Miata.

Regards,
Gordon

Its the "steriotypical" image in Melbourne, Australia.

I'm not saying its gay to drive an RX-8, quite the opposite. Im saying I hope this doesnt turn into a car that everyone winges about..on this forum anyway.

This is the place where people come to find info out on this car that comes directly from the horses mouth, us, the drivers.

My cup holder gets hot, my seatbelt is too high, my seats dont warm me up fast enuf..you see what i mean.

Hmmm. I'm not sure exactly what to say... but I think I wanna say something .

Okay, here goes... I don't think this car is about stereotypes... not at all.

A friend of mine sent me an article that described it as the "Sports Car for Nerds". Well, yah, it's not your typcial, everyday kinda technology... its technology is different... Nerds get that concept, I get that concept... so am I a Nerd?

This car has style out the wazoo... style like I pay MY hairdresser $50 a pop for... so am I vain?

This car goes fast, corners hard, rocks my world, and has a similar affinity for gasoline as I do for "adult beverages"... so am I a Mullet-sporting-chick-***-grabbin-armpit-stinking race groupie?

Well... I could probably sit here and add to this stereotype definition list for hours, but I'm gettin bored with that :p

So... I'm a liquor-loving gay IT Manager whose hairdresser makes twice as much $ per year he does. Which stereotype is that?

Bottom line... if you don't want people lookin at ya... don't drive an 8.
