i usually fill up right at 1/4 tank usually between 10-10.5 gallons. So i usually get between 165 and 200 tank depending on percent of highway mileage. You shouldn't go below 1/4 tank to make sure any sediment in your tank doesn't get stirred up. I find the 16/22 mileage which is the new EPA standards is pretty spot on for me

my past 3 tanks i havn't gotten over 220 miles, so don't worry...you just drive a gas guzzler. plus, its winter gas thats making your mileage a little worse.

i installed my K&N drop in @ 40k, and i started to get about 260 per tank, thats the best ive ever gotten, before that i would get barely 210 miles on a tank.

I drive 80-90% of the time on the highway and have been averaging 18MPG, I had a low of 15.6 (Driving a bit aggressively) and a high of 21.0 MPG (Babying the *.*. out of it). Not overly thrilled, would think I could average at least 22MPG. Dealer commented the milage should improve once the summer blend of gas goes into effect in the Northeast, I'm sure it will since cars that run on ethanol get crappy MPG and the winter blend has more ethanol in it. I track my gas consumption weekly so time will tell.

I see 155 to 175 per tank, 95% city. 280 to 300 miles per tankful is a rarity with the RX-8 don't count on seeing it.

Not a good idea, when you do this and drain any engine of all its fuel you will leave air gaps throughout the system when you pour more fuel in. Could damage your engine...

Consumer Reports got 18 mpg; that's typical for this car. 18 x 15.9 = 286.2 so… no, that's not absolute bull.

Christ, only 200 miles per tank!?! What RX-8 are you driving; that indeed WOULD be a gas guzzler! Totally unacceptable in my book. I feel sorry for you—I've never gotten less than 270 miles, 290-300 is typical.

Who uses 15.9 gallons between fill ups? You would run your car 100% dry. 18 x 13 = 234 which is still pushing it.

IMO a lot of difference we see in MPG is city drivers vs highway drivers. I am mainly city and stop and go so my MPG sucks. Conversely when I drive on the highway for long stretches, the MPG goes up by a fair margin.

I didn't invent how range is calculated; it's MPG x fuel tank capacity.

Yes but you are using the calculation to justify your position.

All highway at that speed I think you could very likely get 300 miles out of a tank. I've gotten 26-27mpg on multiple tanks driving at 65mph/3200rpm (98% highway) which would have put me at 350-400.

Best I got was 260 which was 90% highway, 10% city. Normal for me is about 220-230 miles/tank.

Oh and 70mph is 3500rpm which was my average highway speed.

I've gone very gentle on the car tried shifting at different rpms, and nothings worked. Hey, I know its a sports car and I'm not saying it should get crazy good fuel mileage but I hear people spouting off about 260-270 average just wanted to know if it's maybe a problem or something.

I do 70/30 city/hwy.

I've been hearing about people getting 300 miles to a tank lately and im looking at my 8 wondering why I haven't had a few trips that have been that good. Even when I've done a road trip to seatle and back I only got 245 miles to a tank and had to fill up midway through the trip.

05 rx-8 gt 6 speed
21100 miles

It's also been using a lot of oil like say 2 1/2 -3 liters every 3000 miles.

Just wondering if im the only one having these issues.

Thanks all.
and you are where???? that matters a lot.

i rarely get less than 300 miles out of a tank. but i live the good life..

beers

Sounds about exactly right for the kind of driving you're doing (I get about the same). You've probably got about 2 gallons left in the tank when the light comes on.

Another 220 per yellow light reporting in - been getting 16.2 mpg lately, just switched back to slightly lighter wheels so I expect a slight increase in the coming months. Wish there was a way to know for sure the ethanol content in the Chevron gas as the year goes by.
