Oil Light on again after 1k

I have been having a problem with my oil light coming on after driving about 1000 miles after an oil change... I thought maybe the sensor was bad when it first happened, so I took it the dealer, they told me that my oil was infact low to the point where the sensor should kick in...I told them how I only drove 1000 miles. They didn't know why and didnt see any leaks or problems...so I had the oil changed...Now after another 1000 miles, it is doing it again.. I have an 05 AT and drive it pretty hard...I get about 180 miles to a tank...Anybody have any ideas?

The Rotary is a oil injected engine. If you drive hard it will burn more oil then normal. If it's not burning oil the engine will fail.

Maybe because your driving it to hard. Are you racing the engine like racing the car of some sort? I don't know your driving habits, but what i can tell is, your pushing it too hard on your engine and that's why it's burning the oil faster than usual, i don't know.

You don't need to know his exact driving habits, if he is getting 180 miles to the tank then he is driving it like he stole it. I don't know how the mileage is on the 4 speed ATs but on the 6 speed ones its better than a manual usually.

OP check your oil every fill up(or every other fill up if you want) and add oil when it is needed. Your going almost 6 fill ups without bothering to check the oil, your engine will die on you.

Definitely have to keep up with that oil level as others have mentioned.

I had to learn that quickly, especially when my 'low oil' light came on a few days after I purchased my car, haha.

I drive my 8 pretty hard as well, so I have to stay on top of checking the oil level more frequently... Just as you may need to do also.

if its going through oil thats most likely a good thing. That means its hopefully injecting enough oil into engine. I only go about 500-700 miles before I need to add oil into the engine now, used to only be every 1500 with the old engine.

Yes it's in the owner's manual. This is why I said RTFM.

I'm feeling nice today...

At every other fill up, do this:
* Car is level and engine has not been running for at least 5 min.
* Open hood
* Remove engine cover
* Pull out dipstick
* Wipe dipstick
* Re-insert dipstick
* Pull out dipstick
* Read oil level on dipstick
* Re-insert dipstick
* Fill with oil if not topped up (do not overfill) - if you don't know where to fill, check manual or replace RX-8 with piston-engined car
* Replace engine cover
* Close hood

If the oil light comes on at 1000 miles, then you fill it and it comes on again after another 1000 miles - don't you see a need to perhaps add a little at, say, 500 miles?

(Lord give me strength.......)

And people wonder why so many engines fail -_-

Read the owners manual for the car............ it BURNS OIL on purpose. You need to check it every 3-400 miles or so and add oil as needed.

Jesus Christ, does anyone do any research anymore before buying a car? Is the DVD up on youtube anywhere yet?
