OEM Touch-up Paint?

Hey guys. I'm getting my RX8 TOMORROW (WOOT! I can't sleep!). I live in a college area reputed to have idiots who don't care for cars they don't own though. Do you guys know if Touch-up Paint is a sufficient protection, and if they really work in covering up scratches?

Touch up paint does not offer any protection. It just lets you fill in small scars. Yes, it works, if you apply it properly. Browse the DIY and "Show and shine" forums for tips on how to use the stuff.

Try to not get too upset when the door dings begin.

^ i've done more than that.

j/k.

i got my car in march. there were no dings on it whatsoever. i kept in that condition since last week when the simpsons movie came out. i got 2 dings, one on each side, in one night at the parking lot of century theatres.

i wanted to do some csi type of **** to find out who did this to my 8 so i can set their cars on fire.

I just ordered touch-up paint from Rosenthal for $5.95. Steal!

I'll let you know how it works.

FWIW, the silver touch-up paint has almost NO pigment in it and will require several thin applications. It only works on the smallest of pits & chips. I've sprayed some out to create a chip and am having my automotive paint guru mix the color from better material.

Get the Langka kit along with the Mazda touch up paint and you can have your car looking like new. It takes some practice, but really works.

Thanks for the heads up . . . luckily, I only have tiny chips, visible from 1-2 feet. I am mainly interested in protecting the metal underneath.

Enjoy it!

BTW - the way to avoid parking lot door dings is to never park it. Just keep on driving.

I'm not sure about the other colors, but the real problem i have with the VR touch up paint is that it is WAY too thin. Hardly does anything at all for covering up spots. Have to layer on at least 4-5 layers of touch-up paint just to simply make is somewhat close...and by then, you've got a nice sized blob.

I got the same stuff from Mazda and you are right....it doesn't work that well. I could never seem to get it to mix up very well, even though the small container it comes in has a "shaker" ball inside of it.

Maybe someone has tried some similar product available at a part's store and it works better and they will let us know. Or, maybe these dings will give me an excuse to purchase a body kit and get the whole car repainted!!
