i don't know, but anything is possible

i've been road racing for the last 10 years, and the variety of ways people find to crash cars is pretty amazing.

Probably has a good engine trans and other suspension parts.

Never mind, it's a base automatic model.

That's not a roll over. If a car did that during a roll over it would never go through safety regulations. It looks to me like something was dropped on it. From the shape I'd say an I-beam at a construction yard or something.

That's interesting. I was wondering why the roof was crushed so badly. It does say in the Craigslist ad that it was in a rollover and you do see a lot of side panel and front end damage.

i agree with you here, you can tell that the brunt of whatever impact was at the top center of the vehicle too, the center frame looks like it bent a bit. maybe it rolled over then blasted into a tree roof-first

Or in the roll over it hit the top of a jersey barrier roof first.

The autos still had a top speed of 125, plenty of speed to have all sorts of disastrous stuff happen. And the base trim had a softer suspension, thinner sway bars and thus more body roll. I'd say it would be easier to roll a base auto than any MT, just from the softer suspension alone.

It's a freaking base model (just look at the wheels)

it's sad to see a 8 messed up by some idiot ...

and he wants 1900 for it? he should pay someone 1900 to junk that ****. did the rollover messed his brain up ?

but before you think that's "new low", check this out.

yeah, I know it's not a 8 but a FD, but still, there are nucking futs people who would sell anything ... I wouldn't be surprised if one day someone will try to sell a bag of air on ebay ...

i've seen people roll miata's and then drive home, you actually don't need a ton of speed to do it either.

i do agree it actually looks like something fell on it, in a roll over it should have lots of scrape marks, because it'll slide, pics aren't really good enough...

Well the guy said make an offer.

Even that engine could be good practice for somebody trying to learn how to rebuild a renesis. I would give him a 100 bucks for it

You guys do realize that scrap value on that car (untouched) is likely around $350-450, right?

But if you want to part it out, there are hundreds of dollars in parts that can be salvaged. Likely some of the brake stuff, some suspension parts, power steering rack, ABS pump, stuff like the gas tank, fuel pump, probably the drivetrain, computer, some wiring, etc. You could also pull the tires off (assuming they have fair tread) and sell them used for $10-25 each, then scrap on aluminum wheels is $16 each or so.

I'm not saying it's worth $1900, but probably around $600-1000 is what it would go for at auction.

Wrecked/totaled rx8s routinely go for $2000-3000 at insurance auctions...I've thought about trying to get into that market of parting them out (like I do for 2nd gen rx7s) but the salvage prices haven't come down far enough yet, while the demand for OEM replacement parts hasn't come up enough yet for me to justify it.

As for the damage, I'd say it was a rollover that hit a phone pole or a barrier of some sort. Something being dropped on top would not have damaged the sides/corners of the car.

This guy in my town has it now. I saw it close up and was pokin around it. he's partin it out. Rhineharts Auto Parts I thought he said it had a biohazard sticker(blood) on it when he got it at an insurance auction?? He's just startin to get into rx8's. has 3 now. He said he looked up the name on the title and couldn't find an obit for him. Although the owner might not have been drivin. who knows?? I did get a pass. side visor off him. It looked clean, but I sprayed it off real well when I got home. ya never know.
