Changing the transmission fluid might mask the noise.
Well, if thats the case...

I'm talking about upshifting.

I know what you're talking about. For the longest time I thought it was abnormal.
You really have to listen for it and it's not THAT loud. When I got my transmission replaced the sound was still there. I realized that it was just the way it is built.

Post like this give me a sense of relief but it seems like one says this and another says that.

Just installed my Axial SS and it's great.

However, I (also) have the issue when I shift into first, it makes a 'clunk' sound. This only happens when the car is at a dead stop.

Just wanted to confirm that this is indeed normal. Anyone know the cause?

Richard's response to the issue at hand:

"Sounds like you need to adjust the clutch. It is draging, not fully releasing the input shaft."

no its because the syncro is trying to stop the input shaft and the force gets sent to the output shaft.
if you push in the clutch, wait at least 10 sec you should not hear the sound.

But I shouldn't have to wait at least 10 seconds to begin with? I'm perfectly fine with the 'clunk' if it doesn't cause any tranny damage. However, that begs the question as to why there is this issue with the Axial SS in the first place (and obviously none with the stock tranny)?

no it has nothing to do with the shifter.
