Not sure if everyone knew about the floormat...

I remember reading that some people's floormats were sliding around while they were driving, and upon cleaning mine today I noticed that there is a peg WAAAAAAY under the driver's seat that the floormat can hook on to.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before.

Hole in clip does not line up with hole in mat.
MAzda already started sending out replacement mats. Some people already got them.
Remind your dealer you are waiting for yours..

my mat fits perfect with the peg - perhaps I have the new mats you are speaking of.

mine VIN #1211, has the peg and the floor mat has a grommet. Everything is aligned. Can you believe the detail in these cars? The peg is about center of the drivers seat just under the front of the seat. It is not too far back more toward the front.

For some reason it seems that Canadian RX-8s were delivered with different floor mats where the hole doesn't line up with the peg. I haven't heard of anyone in the US that has the same issue.

Gordon

True, the Canadian models are almost all GT's which come with a different mat.
Most USA are GS, with a more basic mat, but with the hole in the right place. Clips sent out are all for GS mats.

Peg clip was supplied to dealers, and they were supposed to screw it in place under the front of the drivers seat.
Of course if it does not line up, or if dealer can't figure it out ( mine could not, did not know what the clip was for) then you probably did not get it.

I see a screw that would line up with the peg thingee they threw in the glove compartment. I spent a while last night trying to unscrew the screw under the drivers seat and it just spins and spins. No luck getting it installed. VERY hard to get to but I could have had it installed if the screw ever came out. Nothing else in the vicinity to attach to that I can see...

Does anyone have this problem or is there other ways of hooking this up. I don't want to wait until my first oil change to have the dealer install it, and even then, I don't trust them too much.

Thanks.

just did mine, just push on the screw and it goes right in, there are no treads in the grommet, you can screw until tommorow and it won't go in.

canzoomer, I don't mean to offend, but you really don't know what you're talking about!

I have a GS and the mats don't line up either. All the mats in Canada are the same, and they all don't line up! If you don't know, don't speculate, or at least state you "think" or something.

I have a friend who drives a cloth seated GS.
The floor mats he got a different than mine.
Lighter, thinner carpet. No RX-8 embroidery on it.

His floor mat lines up with the peg.
Mine does not.

That is what I am going by.

I see the screw, but I have no peg. I looked everywhere in my car (glove box, trunk, etc..) and cannot find it.

I am sick of my mat sliding all over.

My question is.....why did they not just install this at the factory? Why would something as simple as this, and as easily lost as this, be a dealer installed part?

This kind of reminds me of an old joke I heard.

How many Canucks does it take to install a floor mat with a hole, on a post on the floor?

Answer, Don't know, its never been done.

But seriously, my little chilly friends. I have a GT, VIN 1083, arrived with upgraded RX-8 mats(including the precision mounted hole) and as a special bonus offer, a peg on the floor, which lines up perfectly with the precision mounted hole.

Its on the inventory list right next to the radio *****, tell me you got the radio *****.

Really serious this time. If you don't have them, or they don't line up right, go back to the dealer, they will make it right.

This thread is adding a new verse to the rotary song.

Mazda Canada has been sendingout replacement mats.
Some people received theirs as early as August 14th.
Mazda is apparenty handling this well, no fuss.

On to other changes:

MAny have reported the problem with the oillighjt coming on at high speeds.
Apparently the oilpans are being replaced with a newer version with revised baffles.
Part # from an Australian who posts here is N3H8-10-4AXA

regarding the oilpan issue, is this going to be a dealership retrofit on all cars or just cars reporting the problem?

Mine has this problem..

Up to this point a few dealers in Australia and USA have reportedly changed these.

I spoke to my dealer and Mazda Canada yesterday, but they were not aware of the issue at all.
They did look up the part # and saw it in their system.
Apparently there is inventory in the USA

I called my dealer about the floormat yesterday. I told him that I thought they missed something during PDI.

He said he would check the PDI list and let me know.

A few hours later he calls me back and lets me know that he just got off the phone with US Mazda Corp. They told him that the automatic cars come with the clip, but the manuals do not.

Seems kinda weird to me being there is more foot movement in MT.

My dealer is going to order me one at no charge though. Just don't know how long it will take to get here.

Ask him to try again. He is mistaken.
My dealer just called and tells me the new mats for my car just came in at his shop.
He can speak with the Mazda service centre and they DO know of the problem.

He's lying. Mazda wouldn't say that, since they know perfectly well that the clips are shipped with every car. Your dealer screwed up, and he's trying to pass the blame up the chain. Ask him why all the other buyers of manual cars got the clip?

My dealer is going to order me one at no charge though. Just don't know how long it will take to get here.
Oh, no charge, how nice of them! At least he's going to make good on it, even if he isn't big enough to take responsibility for the error!

Gordon
