Question Normal RX-8 has 285 PS in Gran Turismo 4

In Sony PS2's GT4, the RX-8 Type S (Japan-spec) is advertised as 250 PS when you are shopping for a new car, but after you buy it, the power figure becomes 284 or 285 PS... any thoughts on this?

Gran Turismo shows the real power (rather than advertised) of some Japanese cars, for example, the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) is advertised to have an understated 280 PS but in actuality it has 332 PS.

They want it to keep up.

The stock 8 in NFS:Most Wanted does a 0-60 in about 5 seconds when shifting at redline.

Oi.. pretty much GT4 has several different dept. making the game, each one didnt talk to each other every day that and at the time the Rx-8 was just being released if memory serves. So at one point in time Mazda told the Gt folk "Yeah our Rx-8 will produce 285hp". The programers of the actual car data programed that in. A while later the programers for the car shops portion did some research and most likely found some info on the 8 which stated the Hp as 250, and entered that in. Also doing a oil change right away on a new or used vehicle will add 10hp for awhile.

'eh I'm bored had to reply seriously.

Don't believe everything you see in games. I've got over a dozen cars over 1000 hp in that game and my 787B is turbocharged (and has nitrous!!!) with a little less than 1000 hp.

With the sheer volume of cars in GT4 (roughly 711=744 depending upon Us Vs. Japan release) and the number of variations on each car, there is bound to be a mess up some where

Hell, i got the Lemans edition rx8 running NA at 500 hp with Nos

The initial press release and rumors had the RX-8 at 280ps, Polyphony just didn't update it. Though there are a lot of cars in GT4 that are more horsepower after you buy them. They also get more hp after oilchanges which isn't exactly realistic either.

The days that it shows up are standard, and only the black ones shows up in the used lot.

The hp numbers in GT4 are not really that accurate. I think just about every car has more hp in GT4 than it does in the real world... Plus, which numbers you get depend entirely on which screen you view. There are three or four different hp calculations the game uses, i think. It's very confusing.

The other thing is that the cars are all J-spec, so they get the stronger RX-8s and other cars.

(You can, incidentally, take an RX-8 or some other car into arcade mode and then "de-tune" it down to the US-spec horsepower if you just want to do a few laps.)

the 4 black special edition cars show up on days 693-700, lookin at 9,000,000 credits for the us version

The standard 787 is actually slightly more powerful, for some stupid reason when fully tuned the standard 787 is 1 hp more then the black one

The 787 rocks. I love that car.

I also use the Driving Force Pro wheel. That plus a 42" Plasma = never leaves house.

when it comes to GT4 I get my kicks from reproducing cars from other venues. I have an accurate RX-8 reproduction in the game by purchasing a type-e and full custom tranny with the proper gear ratios.(and an oil change)

currently I'm recreating every feature car from Initial D using specs found online.
