Why not both? Regardless of your love or hate for the GT-R, one thing that's undisputed is it holds its value quite well. That next gen RX aint coming out for at least 2-3 years, so get the GT-R and have fun with it. When the RX? comes out, sell your GT-R. You should be able to get over $55k for it even 3 years from now.

Used your going to be paying at least $70,000 for a GT-R. I'd be willing to bet that the new RX is going to be priced considerably less than this. And keep in mind thats $70,000 for a used GT-R, if you want a new one add like $20,000. As already mentioned these cars are not in the same class. You are comparing apples and oranges here. The next car I am anticipating purchasing is the Porsche Caymen. I would never think of comparing a Porsche to an RX8. Don't get me wrong I love my RX8 but its no Porsche. My opinion is you can get a lot nicer car than a GT-r or RX with $70,000.

The GT-R wouldn't have the same "performance" vehicle with a "real" transmission.

New Porsche Turbo with only 500 HP with PDK does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds.

Why rain on the parade on such great technology if performance and track time is your priority?

Given a choice though, I would go with a manual transmission myself.

But yeah, screw rotaries when you can have a stock vehicle that outperforms super cars.

The future of next rx-? is too uncertain, I don't know much about rotary but if the next 16x or watever doesn't come with a turbo, I fail to see how it could compete with the GTR.

And before anyone says the next RX-? could or might handle better than a GTR, I'm sorry to say 99% of us are not professional drivers that can bring out the handling potential of one if it does exist.

Who cares? If you are PAYING ME TO WIN RACES I'll take the paddles.

If I'm buying a car to enjoy driving on the street, then manufacturers can shove that PDK where the sun don't shine. Do not want, will not ever want.

Take some pride in your driving abilities.

Apologies to those who actually use paddle shifters where they belong, on the track. Or have suffered an amputation. Or something.

if you answered yes to the above questions but you are still leaning towards the not real car- just have a friend of yours smack you in the head because you need a reality check.

do you like the real car? - yes

can you afford the real car? yes

is one of the real car for sale nearish you? less than 30 min drive to the dealer

is the price of the real car near you a good price? almost too good to be true

I'm trying to figure that out, it's not used and it's less than any used 09 I've seen.

Do I remember right, that these things have a hit-the-GODZILLA-GO-button and then transaxle-warranty go bye-bye thing going on? Like, a 50k repair job? Do I remember right?

Seems like a pretty damn good price. Maybe you can sell some of your other cars and buy the GTR. You don't need all those cars. Just get rid of the Saturn Sky. Oh and do NOT let your wifey touch the GTR...EVER.

they void warranty because people abused the crap out of its Launch Control Function then cry about it. Flip everything to R mode then beat the crap outa it every stop light.

The GR6 Transmission, Brand new, I think it cost 25K. but its a Nissan dealership only item, and you need Consult III computer to "re-learn" its settings after the install. (Consult III its a Nissan only or special tunning shop computer system, Has its own Access Key card, based on the Panasonic Tough book)

pretty much like some people said Rotary sucks when they just up their boost by 200% without any extra cooling or proper tune. then "BOOM!" and of course they blame the car, not their own stupid ***.

So Nissan made some adjustments. Instead of 4500 rpm they lowered it to 3500, readjust A/F ratio so the Torque comes a sooner. and other tweaks.

Abusing the "new, updated" Launch Control will still void your warranty tho. Cuz you supposed to use it only if you get stuck in mud/snow or under Racing Conditions.

You're giving a rational explanation of an internet-exaggerated automobile knowledge turned urban legend, how dare you!

Driving the GT-R spiritedly will void warranty, everyone knows that! Along with rotaries only last 60K miles and Corvettes can't handle!

But yeah, a dealer warranty doesn't cover for stupidity, for the GT-R or the RX-8.

I hate irresponsible person like this.

It has something to do with GT-R's low price tag, so more "irresponsible" people can have it. and then guess what? they break it then they bitch and blame the others for their own stupidity.

GT-R have 6 speed Manual Transmission, Nissan has it. All Japanese mod company have seen/test drove it. Its just that Nissan never released it to public, Cuz the Manual Tranny is MUCH cheaper than GR-6 and it will effect its sales. (cuz seriously, who the **** on their right mind would get a ******* Auto Tranny, no matter how good it is, on a Super Car)

okay - so i will start off by saying that i own a MT and used to think that sports cars have to be MT blah blah blah. but as transmissions get better and are actually able to shift faster than the best person on MT and have as much or more power than MT, why in the world would we say that is the wrong answer? what makes me more of a man b/c i have to hold my stick and move it around instead of pressing the right buttons or paddles (yes, that was inentional)?

your thought process is outdated and you need to get over yourself. give me a car that can do the same or better than i can with the ability to free up a hand and i'll use it to wave at you as i pass by. i'll even try to wave with all five fingers.

I thought there was waiting list for the GT-R and dealers were marking up the price. May have been when they just came out, but $60K sounds kind of low for a new one. Something just doesn't sound right to me. I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet at that price.

There was, but with the bad economy + almost NO ONE in the USA has ever heard of GT-R's legend (due to it will kill a lot of US made cars at that time ... err no I mean Emission) + bad rep from stupid owners who blown his own tranny from abuse,

R35's sale is not so great in the USA.

Its great in Asia market tho, hell I saw at least 100 GT-R in Hong Kong alone (in such small city)

Performance wise it blows the RX-8 out of the water in a straight line - 260 ft lbs torque and 260 hp on a slightly lighter car (turbo edition with 17 psi boost).

Twisties it holds it's own but it's not near the feeling of the RX-8.

I'm reluctant to trade in the Sky because they don't make them anymore so there is a rare chance of going back to one should I ever want to.

Update: That GT-R is gone. Sold on Saturday - obviously someone was thinking the same thing I was. Oh well I'm sure another one will pop up. I wasn't ready to part with the R3 so soon anyway.
