Newbie question

I tried searching for it, but I just got a lot of info on engine flooding.
Ive read that you have to put more engine oil in ur engine at every other fill-up. I was wondering how much you fill up. Is it almost all gone? I guess the exact question I'm asking is how much are you guys(and girls) spending on engine oil per month? With the gas prices nowadays, and the low mpg on the 8, it would suck to have to spend a lot more cash on the engine oil every month.

Thanks in advance

-Bobby

no no no.

check your oil every other fillup, and if needed, add oil.

most people don't need to add oil until 1000-3000 miles go by.

as far as flooding, if you have the latest ECU flash ("M" in the united states), you shouldn't have any problem with it.

also, engine oil is cheap as hell. it's a non issue.

I don't need to add a full quart of oil until every 1800~1900 miles. I pay $2.34 for 5W-20 Pennzoil, and I only need to buy oil every 2 months (based upon 1000 miles per month driving).

whew! it seemed like it was a big deal, the engine oil thing. But it seems like its pretty much a non issue-chking engine oil every other fill-up is just something to do while waiting for the gas to fill up.
The Z forum guys seemed pretty harsh on the flooding issue. So its not much of an issue or not an issue at all with the M-flash? and all the 2005's probably already come with that flash right? cuz i dont have one yet but i really Want-one

It's a non issue even for the 2004 cars because all of the Rx-8's are being flashed to the latest version.

The Z guys are always harsh on the 8. But keep in mind we don't have any nasty wheel eating problems or lawsuits going on.

Don't let the flooding issue be a concern. I have 600 miles (I know not much) and no flooding... I am sure others have much more mileage without a problem either.

Don't know maybe it's depend on how u drive it.. If u are not pushing ur car so hard.. no worry about auto oil.. just check it once per week. if it's below middle of the oil-dipstick. add oil to it.
don't add 1 whole bottle. try to add half first.and with for a while then check the oil-dipstick.
if necessary add another half to it.

Well, how many rotary engines does Nissan make, huh?
If they can make one better, lets see them do it, huh, huh? C'mon?

You'll notice there is virtually no competitor slagging on this forum. I guess that is just testament to what type of people own 8's, and what type own Nissan Z's.

To answer the complaints and gripes this car receives.

Oil:

Depends on driving style. I check once a week and add once a month. At the track I add a quart after a full day.

Mileage:

I see 21mpg on the highway, 13 in the city, and 8 on the track.

Again driving style.

Flooding.

20,000 miles and no flooding issues. I have not heard much about anyone flooding their car lately since all the updates. I almost forgot it was an issue until now.

no flooding here. Even before my M flash.
As for Oil. I add about 1/2 a quart every other fill up. Except when at the track. That day it took a whole quart.. But at avrage speeds of 112 and never leaving 3rd gear its no supprise. ....

Of Course the Z guys are bagging on the 8.. they cant got 112mph in 3rd gear all day long like us :P ..

well then your 8 needs to go to the shop. in 9k you should be about 2 quarts low now.. If you have not needed to add any oil your 8 is not running right. Get it to the shop asap.

Thew,

you go 112 in 3rd gear?! That's insane. I bought my 8 in July and maybe I'm not pushing it too hard yet, but I feel bad when I'm going 60 in 3rd. Do you genuinely feel like riding at 8000rpm all day in 3rd is a good idea? I need to know.

on the track yes..

and yes. the 8 was built for high revs. if your not running the tach up near redline your just not driving it the way it was designed. However you will get better gas MPG if you drive it your way.

Your Redline is 8-9 rpm .. use it..
