Newbie on his quest....

Well first off I dont have an RX8 yet. Im on a search to find a perfect one which would be under 40k miles, black exterior, black and red interior and obviosly a 6spd. I do have a question on the year though. Ive done my research, even on here, but I'm still kind of lost. Ive heard the 04 has had bad engine problems. If the car has been taken for the recall, is it fine then? Has it still given anybody any problems? Money is not a problem but I just want a used one, I'm not a fan of buying brand new ones. Also, are the 04 ok for a turbo?? I will be getting one put on practically a week after I get it. Has anyone tracked their MPGs after a turbo?? And does anyone have any suggestions for a turbo kit? I looked into the greddy one which seems fine to me. I don't need anything too crazy. Just around 300whp without spending 8k. Anyways, hope to meet some cool people along they way and thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I have an '04 and have not had any problems at all. But I have less than 20K miles on the car and don't drive it regularly. I've taken several long trips in the car--one was 2,500 miles--and it preformed flawlessly.

However, having said that, I would not encourage someone to purchase an '04, especially if "money is no problem". One thing you might want to consider is waiting until the end of the current model year, around late August-September for some good deals on an '08.

As far as turbo goes, someone else will have to respond to that.

I have an '04 and zero problems... Yes this year was known to have some problems.. but you have to remember, that was the 1st year and just like everything..they have to work the bugs! To be honest with you..year has nothing to do with engine problems or failures.. I've heard of '05..'06..even '07 RX-8's having engine failures. The only thing I would look for is that all the updates and recalls have been done to it... Buy it..enjoy it.. and drive it like you stole it... (ok that last comment..be careful and I don't mean race it..) Just REEEEEEEEEEEEV it!!

This would be the best idea.
Just go up to the dealer's service center and they can give you a print-out on everything thats been done to that car.
I actually printed out a bunch of TSBs just before my warranty expired and went up to the dealer and we looked through the records on everything that was done.

^ Trust me.. no confusion there.. There are many "8" owners that don't have one as a daily driver... therefore, having low miles on their '04's..
