Newbie Help

Howdy,
New Rx8 owner here:
2004 w/ 43K miles
Velocity Red
6spd

I am a college student from WV and I wanted to do a couple exterior mods to my new toy. I want to add a spoiler, fender strakes, aero panels, front and rear rotary accents, and chrome wheels.

1) First off I was just wondering what your opinions were on matching color fender strakes instead of the brushed aluminum?

2) Has anyone purchased a OEM replicate rear spoiler? I found a company on ebay that does exact replica spoilers for $80 + shipping that are already painted 27a Velocity red.

3) I LOVE the stock 18in wheels on my car but I would like to get them dipped in chrome. Has anyone on here dealt with a company that will do that? I have heard about purchasing chrome wheels as long as you send them your stock wheels in place.

4) Also I purchased my car from a non Mazda dealorship so could anyone send me a quick overview about new owner maintanace such as preventing flooding or how often to change the oil?

Thanks guys, im glad to be part of the team!

1, Go Aluminum
2, Try getting an OEM one used from here first.
3, You can try a wheel exchange
4, Don't shut down a cold engine, I change my oil every 3,500 miles.

hey, thanks for the info... do you know of an users on here with same color fender strakes? I love the aluminum look on the gunmetal and black cars, but for some reason it looks kind of cheap to me on the Velocity Red. However I did stumble upon an ebay add with one with the same color. Let me know what u think?

Welcome to the club and congrats on the new car. No strakes for me. I've seen a few pics of VR cars with VR strakes on the forum - I would search for those and find a pic that shows the entire car so you can get a better perspective. There is also various aftermarket fender vents available if you wanted to do something other than strakes.

don't do the ebay spoiler - most don't fit right. Find someone to do a trunk swap. look in the FS/WTT section. Get your strakes and accents from rx8strakes.com and perhaps someone will trade wheels with you. Mazda does make the stock rims in chrome as well but they are less common I think. Good luck and welcome to the site!

Concur for a VR, aluminum. I went color matched on my BCM as I wasn't looking for contrast.

In addition to exchange, you might be able to swap wheels with a member here.

If you must shut down a cold engine, rev to 3k rpm and hold there for 10 seconds and then immediately shut off. This clears out the unburned fuel that would cause flooding.

3k oil change myself.
