New RX8 owner, dont know much, need help

Well, I just bought a 2004 Silver RX8 when i went home on leave in July. Im looking to do some things with it...Im looking at Turbo Chargers, Cold Air Intakes, Exhaust and everything else really. Im just looking for some ideas for what goes really well on the RX8, performance or otherwise... Eventually Im looking at customizing just about everything so any advice or suggestions you have on anything would be great. Rims, sound system, suspension...you name it, im gonna need it. Thanks a lot

Hey inthearmynow,

Perhaps you where a little overwhelmed by all the possibilities. And it is kinda hard when you don't know where to start reading.

This thread should help start you off(Intro to Modding FAQ).
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-faq-9/first-time-rotary-owner-read-before-you-modify-your-car-15505/

You should definitely look over the other FAQs here:
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-faq-9/

There are also lots of sub forums / mini-forums lurking around.
(Many with their own FAQ's and Stickys)

For instance located inside the Tech Garage sub-forum
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/

there is the DIY forum
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/

Hope this helps a little,
Smokey

"New RX8 owner, dont know much, need help " would be considered a triple redundancy in some forums.

I really don't believe he exists it is some type of automated bot which says search. Come to think of it I have never heard him add anything more constructive then what a bot could answer.

Mugatu = bot

Mr. RoBoto

He is the key keeper: he hands the keys to the newbie to let them drive thier search engine.

Okay...so what exactly is this "RX-8 Club"? Is this just a place where people who have two things in common (1. They own RX-8's and 2. They obviously have nothing better to do with their time than to talk **** to people over the computer) or is this actually designed to help people out. See, I've done a "search", in fact, I've one quite a bit of "research", but I was wondering if anyone here (since some of you, I assume, have some knowledge about the subject) knows of anything that I probably didn't find. I have looked at turbo's, exhaust and everything else, but I wanted people's opinions on where the best stuff is at and why. Maybe because of prices, defects in parts or whatever else would persuade someone to order from one place rather than another. Anyways...if anyone actually has any knowledge or opinions and would like to share them with me that would be great. For all the rest of you, I don't have time to sit here and read the bullshit. Keep your comments to yourself, thanks.

Ask specific question and you will get an answer, when people throw out a blanket question not many people will waste their time trying to answer it because no one really knows what you want.

I'll start the ball rolling with exhaust systems. Are you looking for something really loud or a little above stock? Are you looking for a CAT back or will you be putting in a straight pipe which will radically change the sound of any muffler you install. Are you looking for a lighter system to max. performance? I presently have a MS dual can which I love. The sound is sweet if not a little loud. The tips are 3.5' double wall and in my opinion one of the best looking systems on the RX. The system is lighter then stock but suffers from gold tipping which needs to be buffed out every month. The only problem is a little too loud for my wife and me at times so I will be changing it out for a RB this weekend or next. This is a quiter system. After I switch them I will post a complete comparison of the two. There are also many others systems I have not tested or heard but if I know what you are looking for I can point you in the right direction.

You need to ask specifics, like you we don't have time to read through all the crap to find out what is really important to you. Remember garbage in, garbage out. This is a great recourse if you know how it works.

Just get a custom turbo, Int-X, get some fricking big exhaust and use a straight pipe.

Yeah, with my exhaust, there are a few things im looking for. I want something a little louder than stock but not insanely loud. Something that looks good is a plus for sure but my main focus is performance. If there is any specific exhaust that can do all of this, I'd love to hear about it.

As far is the turbo is concerned....this would be my first priority, as long as I know that there won't be any problems such as emissions. I've heard that the turbo might be able to be tuned to pass emissions and then retuned for performance. I don't know much about it but im interested. In 2 years, when I get out of the military, Im going to need to pass emissions...I just dont want to waste my time and money if there isnt a way around it.

Thanks a lot for the help

Nothing gives you significant performance gain except for a turbo and good tuning.
