New RX8 owner.

Got myself a 2004 Mazda RX8. 2nd owner, 130K miles, 6 speed manual, cloth seats, no NAV. Previous owner kept it maintained. I have always loved the RX8 and I got this one for a good price.
I will get better pics tomorrow.

Looks good!
Make sure to keep it that way by reading the stickies and educating yourself on (at least) the basics of the RENESIS engine.

Thanks guys. I didn't properly introduce myself. My name is Jason, I live in the Dallas, Tx area. I am a mechanic, but I have never owned or worked on a rotary engine. Hopefully I won't have to work on the engine much. It's going to be my daily driver.

I have done my homework on them. Flooding issues, oil consumption, MPG, cat converter failure, moisture in the dipstick tube, etc. Flooding is simple to avoid, I had a Northstar cadillac once, so I know about oil consumption, I just came from a 92 T-bird Super Coupe and believe me, the MPG is an improvement.

I don't know if it's the original engine or not. With 130K on it and still running perfect, I can't imagine it being original. The previous owner told me that all recalls had been done on it, but I will call my Mazda house and find out for sure. Basically the car belonged to his daughter and she was moving and needed it gone. The guy seemed to know plenty about the rotary engine.

Oh and quick question, is there a way to visually identify the revised engine? Code on it somewhere?

I don't see a blue tag on the keg. All I really see is 13B Mazda stamped on it. I have a floor mat, it's in the trunk.

Got my wife a 2005 RX-8 4spd auto 39,910 miles. Love buying her presents that i play with, but I must say i think she will like this more than the fishing pole I got her for her birthday or the XBOX 360 i got her for Christmas complete with call of duty Modern Warfare.

Realize that, by far, most 8's have their original engine. And that includes many 100K+ cars. Remember, it's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil or, in this case, the ink.

It's like the Northstar 4.6L in the cadillacs. The majority of them didn't blow a head gasket, but if you look online that is all you find. And FYI, the HG isn't THAT hard to replace on it.
